Description
Lucignolo, also called Candlewick or Lampwick, appears in the *World Fairy Tale Series* adaptation of Carlo Collodi's *Pinocchio*. An older, streetwise boy, he meets Pinocchio on their journey to the Land of Toys. Lucignolo embodies rebellion and delinquency, rejecting authority and urging reckless acts like vandalism, smoking, and drinking. He openly scorns moral guidance, particularly ridiculing Pinocchio's conscience, Jiminy Cricket.

He plays a pivotal role by convincing Pinocchio to abandon responsibilities for immediate gratification in the rule-free Land of Toys, where children indulge in perpetual play. This choice leads to catastrophe when the Land of Toys is revealed as a trap transforming misbehaving children into donkeys. Lucignolo undergoes a horrifying transformation into a donkey, growing ears and a tail first. Panicking during the process, he cries out desperately for his mother, but receives no answer. Once fully transformed, he loses his ability to speak and is sold into labor.

The original Collodi narrative, the basis for this adaptation, includes Lucignolo being worked to death on a farm after his transformation, though the anime episode does not explicitly depict his post-transformation life. His character arc serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of hedonism and disobedience.
