Description
Agnès Chevalier de Milan serves as Captain of the Royal Musketeers, an all-female unit protecting Queen Henrietta of Tristain and executing critical missions. Her full title denotes her knighthood, and she acts as both the queen's bodyguard and trusted adviser. A childhood trauma defines her: she alone survived when fire mages deliberately burned her village, D'Angleterre, under the false pretense of containing a plague. This event forged a deep resentment towards magic users, especially fire mages, leading to open suspicion and antagonism.

Maintaining a calm, disciplined, and serious demeanor shaped by her military role and past, Agnès gradually opens up to a select few, including Henrietta and Saito Hiraga. Rumors regarding her sexuality, mentioned by Siesta, remain unsubstantiated. Her combat expertise extends beyond leadership; she teaches practical swordsmanship at the Tristain Academy of Magic, emphasizing non-magical battle tactics. She specifically trains Saito using wooden swords to circumvent his lost Gandálfr powers, ensuring he can protect Louise.

A quest for vengeance against those responsible for her village's destruction drives significant actions. She initially targets Lishimon, believing he orchestrated the massacre. During a mission with Henrietta to expose Lishimon's treason, Agnès confronts and kills him after he attempts deception regarding D'Angleterre's records. Later, she discovers Jean Colbert's involvement as the former captain "Flame Snake" of the raiding force. Consumed by hatred, she tries to kill him, only to recognize him as the stranger who saved her from the fire, identified by a distinctive scar on his back. This revelation creates profound internal conflict.

Her character development centers on struggling with forgiveness. Though vowing never to absolve Colbert, she consciously chooses to end the cycle of hatred, sparing him to prevent violence among his students. She even provides Firearm Squadron support during his participation in Tabitha's rescue mission. This evolution from vengeance-driven isolation to reluctant reconciliation marks her growth. She also forms a steadfast friendship with Saito, continuing his combat training and supporting his commitment to Louise.

Agnès possesses exceptional skills with guns and swords, noted to surpass Saito's abilities partly due to his lack of formal training. As a non-magical fighter in a magic-dominated world, she represents resilience and tactical acumen. Her loyalty to Henrietta remains unwavering, driving her to undertake high-stakes missions like infiltrations and prisoner rescues for Tristain's monarchy.
