Description
Shogun Tokugawa rules Japan in 1572, amidst civil wars, bearing a striking resemblance to Dr. Drake that enables Drake to impersonate him. Tokugawa displays cowardice, overreacting dramatically to minor threats like fainting after a harmless lizard bite he mistakes for a snake. He possesses an exceptionally poor sense of direction, admitting he gets lost even within his own residence and requiring constant guidance during expeditions. To enforce his will, he employs childish tactics such as whining and flopping on the ground.
He seeks the legendary Half-Moon Stone, also called a Cosmos Stone, seeking an edge against his rival Takeda. Tokugawa recounts its origin from the Yamata no Orochi myth, where Susanoo slew the eight-headed monster and retrieved the stone and a sword. Leading the D-Team on his quest involves traversing treacherous terrain like cliffs and waterfalls, often resulting in minor injuries requiring bandages. When confronted about leading the group in circles, he reluctantly admits his directional failings.
During the search, Space Pirate Foolscap captures Tokugawa to extract the stone's location. The D-Team rescues him during a battle involving Foolscap, the Kunoichi ninjas, and amnesiac Space Pirate Shear. He later guides the group through a cave behind a waterfall, choosing the left tunnel fork. Separated with Zoe during an Alpha Gang-triggered cave-in, Tokugawa comforts her, acknowledging her father's fortune in having a daughter willing to risk so much and allowing her to lean on him for support.
After Hanzo retrieves him and the White Cosmos Stone, Tokugawa departs for the Battle of Mikatagahara. He considers returning for the D-Team upon learning Drake might be Zoe's father but is persuaded by Hanzo to prioritize the battle. Later, he endorses the D-Team's combat skills to Hanzo, enabling them to accompany him. During the journey, he suggests hiding as a tree or rock to evade Gabbro. At Hamamatsu Fortress, he admires the bold strategy of leaving the gates open, orchestrated by Dr. Drake, which spooks the pursuing army into retreating.
