Description
Kenji Kondō begins his journey as a first-generation Fafner pilot, introduced as a carefree student who values social bonds over academics. His evolution from casual defiance to disciplined protector unfolds as he dedicates himself to safeguarding others, particularly Sakura Kaname, whom he eventually marries. Early interactions reveal a competitive streak through one-sided sparring challenges against Kazuki Makabe, underscoring his earnest, spirited nature.

Selected alongside peers for Fafner training, he pilots the Mark Acht, confronting the annihilation of his homeland and the deaths of comrades. These losses forge his resolve to defend the island, even as grief over Sakura, Mamoru, and his mother’s deaths exposes his fragility. Drama CDs depict his struggle with isolation and existential despair, amplifying his layered humanity.

Later, he shifts to a medical and supervisory role, monitoring the health and training of younger recruits. His bond with Sakura evolves into a partnership rooted in mutual support and shared duty. During pivotal missions like the Fifth Operation Azure, he takes command of the Siegfried System, enduring the excruciating toll of Festum assimilation. To sustain this role, he relies on Activion injections—a last-resort measure accelerating his physical decline, emphasizing his self-sacrificial ethos.

His arc culminates in balancing stoic leadership with raw vulnerability, epitomizing resilience amid war’s human cost. While his youth brims with lighthearted banter, maturity reveals a quiet tenacity to protect his community, even as he faces personal tragedies and moral ambiguities in their ceaseless conflict.
