Description
Rin Kokonoe attends Futatsubashi Elementary School, progressing from class 3-1 to 4-1. Born August 17, she is depicted at ages 7, 11, and 16. Physically, she possesses ochre-colored knee-length hair usually in twin pigtails secured with pink beads, brown eyes, a height of 142 cm, weight of 34 kg, and measurements of 73-61-74 cm.

Raised solely by her mother, Aki Kokonoe, until age five, Rin displayed affection and happiness yet shyness around strangers. Her life shifted when her first cousin once removed, orphaned Reiji Kokonoe, joined their household. Rin bonded with him and accepted his developing relationship with Aki. This stability shattered upon Aki's lung cancer diagnosis. Despite efforts to survive until Rin's elementary school enrollment, Aki died shortly before. Rin, who had been folding paper cranes hoping for recovery, witnessed the death, resulting in severe trauma that rendered her silent, emotionless, and withdrawn.

Entering Futatsubashi Elementary in this catatonic state, Rin was grouped with "misfits" Kuro Kagami and Mimi Usa during physical education. Kuro initially treated her as a living doll, but Rin reacted violently when Kuro tried removing a dress made by Aki, marking her first emotional response since her mother's death. Over the next two years, her personality transformed radically from withdrawn to rebellious and manipulative. She emerged as the de facto class leader, leveraging her intelligence and societal perceptions of childhood innocence to outmaneuver adults. Her loyalty to Kuro and Mimi became absolute, exemplified when she psychologically tormented their teacher, Nakamura, into a nervous breakdown and resignation after he bullied Mimi into avoiding school.

Rin's relationship with Daisuke Aoki, Nakamura's successor, defines much of her arc. She developed an intense crush upon their first meeting, proclaiming herself his girlfriend. Initially distrustful of adults, she coerced him into silence about her role in Nakamura's downfall using threats of false molestation accusations. Her mistrust gradually softened due to his kindness, like helping Mimi return to school and caring for a stray cat. This crush evolved into genuine love, expressed through teasing and sexual harassment – flaunting sexuality, making explicit advances, and discussing topics like fellatio with inappropriate knowledge for her age. Discovering colleague Kyōko Hōin's interest in Aoki intensified her actions, culminating in a failed confession and emotional rift.

Following this, Rin adopted a more restrained approach on Hōin's advice, seeking to earn Aoki's affection through kindness. She became class representative to support his teaching and amplify student voices. This shift was partly motivated by fears of her own "dark nature" – manifested in her harassment of Nakamura, blackmail of Aoki, and near-violence against Hōin – and discomfort with Reiji's increasingly obsessive behavior. Reiji, her guardian after Aki's death, had harbored romantic feelings for Aki and grew jealous of Rin's attachment to Aoki. Rin struggled to balance platonic love for Reiji as a father figure, romantic feelings for Aoki, and respect for her mother's memory.

Her familial background includes complexity with her biological father, Roku Kamihara, who abandoned Aki due to childbirth risks. Rin rejected him during their sole encounter. Reiji remained her primary guardian, though their relationship strained under his protectiveness and jealousy.

As Rin aged, Aoki grappled with his own shifting feelings, eventually acknowledging romantic attraction but choosing to prioritize her well-being until adulthood. At age 16, they reunited and began dating.
