Description
Kaede Sakura operates as the central antagonist throughout the Kämpfer series. Her origins trace to childhood discovery of an underground bunker housing a mysterious statue. Direct eye contact with this artifact triggered a fractured psyche, enabling extraterrestrial Moderators to utilize her body as their proxy. This generated two distinct identities: her original persona and a Moderator-controlled avatar.

The original Kaede projects a friendly, popular image as one of Seitetsu High School’s "Three Beauties." While maintaining polite social conduct, she conceals profound aversion to men—possibly rooted in paternal abandonment. She cultivates an obsessive romantic fixation on the female incarnation of protagonist Natsuru Senō after being rescued by her, perceiving male Natsuru as a romantic rival. This persona compulsively collects "Entrails Animals"—stuffed dolls depicting visceral deaths—and gifts them to unsuspecting recipients, inadvertently activating their metamorphosis into Kämpfers. She experiences total amnesia whenever Moderators release control of her form.

The Moderator-controlled persona accesses the original’s memories but exhibits amplified sadism, manipulation, and homicidal impulses. Functioning as the Moderators’ enforcer, she engineers conflicts between Red and Blue Kämpfers to reignite their suspended war. Her capabilities exceed ordinary Kämpfers, encompassing invulnerability, immortality, mind control (effective against other Kämpfers), superhuman sword speed, wind manipulation, and authority to create new Kämpfers. She wields a Japanese sword and Beretta 93R pistol as primary armaments.

Her pivotal schemes include distributing Entrails Animal dolls to generate Kämpfers, manipulating Natsuru via mind control during the Cultural Festival Beauty Pageant to feign romantic confession, and exploiting the event to scatter dolls across the audience. This transmutes spectators into "White Kämpfers"—an enslaved legion obeying her absolutely. She specifically targets Natsuru’s childhood friend Mikoto Kondō, transforming her into a Red Kämpfer to psychologically torture Natsuru, though Mikoto ultimately defects to the protagonists.

In *Kämpfer für die Liebe*, she intensifies hostilities by mind-controlling Natsuru to lure allies into a trap. When Natsuru disobeys her kill order, she withdraws after showcasing immortality by surviving a gunshot and katana strike unscathed. From her bed, encircled by enslaved White Kämpfers, she vows vengeance against the protagonists and declares intent to forcibly recruit Natsuru.

Her narrative concludes unresolved following the series’ cancellation. Earlier plot elements indicate the Moderators’ influence originated from the childhood statue encounter. Destroying this artifact severs their connection in certain continuities, depowering her and liberating her from their dominion.
