Aultcray Melromarc XXXII, born Lüge Lansarz Faubrey, was the 30th legitimate heir to Faubrey's throne. His parents and relatives perished during childhood at the hands of Hakuko demi-humans from Siltvelt, leaving only Lüge and his blind younger sister, Lucia, alive. Faubrey's refusal to retaliate for political reasons ignited Lüge's intense hatred toward both Faubrey and Siltvelt. He relocated to Melromarc with Lucia, changing his name to Aultcray Melromarc and ascending through military ranks. He defeated the previous wielder in combat to become the Staff Hero, renowned for strategic brilliance. His military achievements attracted Queen Mirellia Q Melromarc, whom he married, becoming King Consort under matriarchal traditions.
His reign began promisingly, earning him the title "Wise King" for tactics securing Melromarc's stability. Personal tragedies, however, deepened existing prejudices: Lucia disappeared under circumstances implicating Hakuko involvement, and his son Shizel was assassinated through Siltvelt manipulation orchestrated by his elder daughter Malty. These fueled his hatred for demi-humans and the Shield Hero, whom Siltvelt worshipped. Decades of peace saw his judgment deteriorate, worsened by spoiling Malty and allowing her manipulative influence. The Church of the Three Heroes exploited this, reinforcing his biases against the Shield Hero.
As king during the Cardinal Heroes' summoning, Aultcray abused authority to persecute Shield Hero Naofumi Iwatani. He orchestrated Naofumi's false rape accusation with Malty, withheld resources, restricted leveling opportunities, and incited public hatred. This included confiscating Naofumi's assets, enabling Motoyasu's duel to "liberate" Raphtalia, and forbidding dragon hourglass use. His actions nearly triggered international conflicts by violating summoning protocols, forcing Queen Mirellia's diplomatic intervention.
Mirellia's return exposed his injustices, leading to trial. Stripped of royalty and legally renamed "Trash," he was demoted to a common soldier. The Vassal Staff abandoned him due to unworthiness, symbolizing his fall. His refusal to fight during the Spirit Tortoise crisis further eroded his reputation. Naofumi openly dismissed his past accomplishments as exaggerated, while allies like Rishia questioned his competence.
Redemption began through encounters with Naofumi's allies. Atla, a disabled Hakuko girl, reminded him of Lucia, challenging his prejudices. Queen Mirellia's death at Malty's instigation became the catalyst for transformation; witnessing Malty's true nature, he renounced past biases. Regaining the Vassal Staff during the Takt conflict, he demonstrated strategic genius by orchestrating victories against overwhelming odds. He accepted "Trash" as a penance name, supported Melty's rule as an advisor, and reconciled with Naofumi. His tactical acumen resurfaced, with contemporaries acknowledging the return of the "Wisest King of the West."
Aultcray wielded the Seven Star Staff with mastery, employing spells like Float Mirror for defense, Air Strike Blast for offense, and High-Class Group Spell: "Ice Meteor" for large-scale attacks. His genius lay in tactical innovation, turning minimal intelligence into decisive victories. Though the Staff rejected him during his decline, it responded after his awakening, enabling him to temporarily lend it to Naofumi during critical battles.
Relationships defined his arc. His devotion to Mirellia was genuine but marred by overlooking her counsel. He spoiled Malty, ignoring her sociopathic tendencies until her role in Mirellia's death led him to endorse her execution. Though caring towards Melty, trust issues strained their bond. Naofumi transitioned from a target of irrational hatred to a reconciled ally, with Aultcray humorously seeking grandchildren from their union. Lucia's loss fueled his vendettas, making Atla's resemblance pivotal to his redemption.
In later life, he served Melromarc as a strategist and joined the Filolial Knights incognito. His dramatic life inspired plays and historical texts within his world.
