OVA
Description
Naoya Tōhara is a twenty-three-year-old human from the human world who becomes the central male figure in the story. He is of average height and build with a youthful, almost childlike face that sometimes allows him to pass for a young girl when the situation calls for it. Orphaned after his parents died in an accident and lacking any close relatives or friends, he grew up feeling isolated and has few fond memories of human society. This lonely upbringing left him with a deep-seated trauma, but also a strong desire to connect with others and a gentle, caring nature.
By the time the story begins, Naoya is an unemployed young man struggling to find a job. He is approached by a mysterious woman who offers him a promising position, and he follows her to the magical realm of Álfheimr. There he learns that the job is to become the first member of the harem of Princess Astarotte Ygvar, a young succubus who despises men. Naoya accepts this unusual role, partly because he has no attachments left in the human world and partly because he genuinely wants to help the princess.
Naoya’s personality is defined by his warmth, patience, and lack of malice. He is kind and gentle with everyone he meets, never taking advantage of others despite the unusual circumstances. He is a devoted father to his ten-year-old daughter, Asuha Tōhara, whom he fathered years earlier through an encounter with Astarotte’s mother, Queen Mercelída Ygvar. Asuha arrives in the magical realm shortly after Naoya does, and he continues to care for her with love and responsibility.
Naoya’s primary role in the story is to be the key to Astarotte’s harem, which she initially resists due to a childhood trauma involving her mother’s intimate acts with men. Astarotte agrees to accept him only on the condition that he becomes her personal “toy” rather than a proper harem member. Over the course of the narrative, Naoya gradually breaks through her defenses, showing her kindness and patience, and helping her overcome her fear and hatred of men. He becomes her love interest and a stabilizing influence in her life.
His relationships are central to his character. With Astarotte, he evolves from an unwelcome stranger to a trusted companion and eventual romantic partner. With his daughter Asuha, he maintains a close and loving bond. He also interacts with the queen, Mercelída, the woman who gave birth to Asuha, and with Judith, the chief of staff who brought him to the realm. Naoya’s presence often sparks jealousy and protective feelings in Astarotte, revealing her growing attachment to him.
Naoya undergoes clear development from a lonely, directionless human into a caring, emotionally grounded figure who finds purpose and a new family in the magical world. He learns to navigate the complex customs of the succubus kingdom while staying true to his gentle nature.
In terms of notable abilities, Naoya possesses no supernatural powers. His strengths lie in his emotional intelligence, his ability to remain calm under pressure, and his genuine compassion. He is also resourceful, as shown when he crafts a replica of Astarotte’s favorite doll to cheer her up. His youthful appearance occasionally aids him in disguises, but he relies primarily on his kind heart and steady presence to influence those around him.
