Description
Kanata Nanami is a second-year astronomy student at Seigetsu Academy, born March 18th under the Pisces sign. He possesses white hair, olive eyes, stands 175 cm tall, weighs 55 kg, and has blood type B. His distinctive appearance features an unbuttoned school uniform, necktie tucked into his back pocket, five ear piercings, a wallet chain, and a metal neck chain. Casually, he favors layered outfits like red plaid shirts over gray or yellow undershirts paired with green pants.

Raised alongside childhood friends Tsukiko Yahisa and Suzuya Tohzuki, Kanata inherited a terminal illness from his late father, Haruka Nanami. His mother, Mayumi Nanami, is his only surviving family. The illness causes lethargy, frequent fainting, and necessitates hospital stays. Kanata avoids discussing his condition and resists treatment, interpreting concern as pity. To combat feelings of fragility, he seeks physical fights for the adrenaline rush, believing it makes him feel alive, despite worsening his health—a habit reflecting his brash, impulsive nature. Beneath this tough exterior lies a crybaby disposition and romantic feelings, often masked by tsundere vulnerability.

Kanata harbors long-unexpressed romantic feelings for Tsukiko. These intensify when transfer student Yoh Tomoe pursues her. Viewing Yoh as a threat to his friendships, Kanata responds with aggression. During one confrontation, his illness causes a collapse, forcing a truce. Gradually, he develops mutual respect with Yoh, accepting that relationships inevitably change, softening his hostility until they form a close bond.

His development centers on accepting his illness and learning to rely on others. In *After Spring*, he consents to a high-risk surgery (50% success rate) hoping for a future with Tsukiko. The surgery succeeds, leading to two outcomes: In the Good Ending (two years later), his illness enters remission. He proposes to Tsukiko and plans to study abroad as an astrophographer specializing in celestial photography. In the Best Ending (five years later), he fully recovers, becomes a renowned astrophographer, and marries Tsukiko—though habitual tardiness makes him late to his own wedding.

Kanata's loyalty manifests protectively, especially toward Tsukiko. He physically confronts her harassers and tends to her injuries, his bandaging skill honed from frequent hospital visits. He uses self-deprecating humor about his health to diffuse tension, once joking about potential death to ease Tsukiko's worries. His dynamic with Suzuya includes playful teasing about morning routines.
