Description
Yoshino Takatsuki, assigned female at birth, internally identified as male. He became close friends with Shuichi Nitori after they met in elementary school, confiding in each other about their gender identities, with Yoshino expressing a desire to be a boy.

He possessed a tall, athletic build, dark gray hair often cut in a boyish bowl cut, and slightly greenish deep brown eyes. He typically avoided traditionally feminine clothing like skirts or dresses, preferring casual masculine attire such as plain shirts, pants, and hoodies. After a short haircut, he was often able to pass as a boy.

His personality was generally nonchalant and easy-going, with a preference for avoiding confrontation. However, he could become emotionally upset or even violent when teased, particularly about aspects of his assigned birth gender, such as the onset of menstruation or breast development. He held a strong sense of justice and loyalty to friends.

His family included a mother, father, older sister, and older brother. They were loving but often struggled to understand or accept his gender identity. His mother frequently attempted to feminize him by buying girls' clothing and suggesting enrollment in an all-girls school. His father expressed misunderstandings, interpreting Yoshino's masculinity as being a butch woman. The boys' uniform Yoshino wore in elementary school was a hand-me-down from his older brother.

Experiences of gender dysphoria were significant. He felt humiliated by the onset of menstruation and was deeply distressed by breast development, even having vague suicidal thoughts. He purchased a chest binder to conceal breast growth and avoid wearing a bra, which he saw as an unwanted symbol of femininity. A school teacher eventually ordered him to wear a bra under the school uniform, which he complied with. He also expressed a desire to be taller and to have a penis.

He experimented with presenting as male in public, often traveling to neighboring cities while dressed in masculine clothes. During one outing, he met an older transgender woman named Yuki, who mistook him for a boy and found him attractive. This experience provided a significant confidence boost.

For a time in junior high school, he attended school wearing a male uniform with little opposition from staff. However, he stopped wearing it, feeling it was unfair that Shuichi was not allowed to present as female. This decision was also influenced by a growing perception from others that his masculine presentation was merely an imitation and not reflective of a true internal identity.

His relationship with Saori Chiba was complex and often strained. Saori frequently made comments that undermined his masculine self-image, such as suggesting he grow out his hair to look more feminine. He sometimes retaliated, such as immediately cutting his hair short again after Saori expressed approval of a more feminine appearance.

In high school, he began working at a modeling agency and started to present in a more feminine manner. He eventually told Shuichi he no longer wished to be seen as male and decided to continue living as a girl. He also confessed a romantic attraction to Shuichi at this time. The manga's author indicated that Yoshino still wanted to be transgender female-to-male and believed transitioning was the right path but lacked the drive to pursue it. This led to significant emotional distress, and he was last seen crying while holding hands with Shuichi.

Throughout his story, he was involved in various activities, such as joining the female basketball team in junior high school with a friend named Chizuru Sarashina. He also participated in a farewell play for sixth graders, which led to physical conflicts with bullies.

His journey involved a long period of confusion and questioning, influenced by societal pressures, isolation from supportive friends, and interactions with individuals like Saori Chiba. This resulted in him entering a phase where he experimented with validating a masculine gender identity but eventually lost the resolve to continue identifying as male.
