Description
Mari Tennōji is a student at St. Marie Academy, where she serves as student council president and leads her own team, Team Tennōji. She is widely regarded as a genius in pastry-making and has earned numerous awards for her exceptional work. Despite her accolades, she considers her medals and trophies unimportant compared to the recognition she seeks from Henri Lucas, her mentor and the renowned pâtissier who inspired her career. As a child, she tasted a honey pie that Henri baked when he was a high school student, and that moment set her on the path to becoming a pâtissière. She is known as the Princess of St. Marie Academy and is often called Mari-hime by her peers. Her personality distinguishes her from typical cool beauty characters in girls' anime of the time: while she initially appears aloof and superior, she is not cold or arrogant toward everyone. She is genuinely dedicated to her craft and holds herself to a high standard. Her motivation is deeply tied to Henri’s approval, and she sees Ichigo Amano as a rival after Henri recommends Ichigo. Mari is interested in Ichigo’s natural sense of taste and wants to compete with her directly. Over the course of the story, Mari develops from a distant rival into a more collaborative figure, eventually working alongside Ichigo and the Sweets Princes in professional settings. In the manga, her relationship with Henri deepens, and they marry. She is partnered with the Sweets Spirit Honey, and unlike many other pâtissiers, she does not specialize in a single type of sweet, instead demonstrating broad skill. She is fluent in both French and English, having learned through immersion, and is capable of running pastry shops in Paris and New York. Her role in the series is that of a highly skilled upperclassman who challenges and eventually supports the main characters, representing the peak of student achievement at St. Marie Academy.
