Description
Ryuusei Date, an 18-year-old possessing exceptional psychic abilities classified as Psychodriver, was recruited into the Earth Federation Army. Following the death of his police officer father in the line of duty and his mother Yukiko Date's hospitalization for an unspecified illness, he entered the Burning PT National Tournament seeking prize money for her medical bills. After either winning or demonstrating impressive skill during an alien attack on the tournament, Major Ingram Plissken recruited him into the secretive SRX Development Project, with the military agreeing to cover his mother's hospital expenses as part of his enlistment.
Initially, Ryuusei displayed an extremely hot-blooded, impulsive personality and a deep obsession with mecha, particularly super robots. This mecha otaku nature led him to enthusiastically name and shout attacks during combat. He expressed disappointment that his assigned unit, the R-1, was classified as a real robot, though he later found satisfaction in the super robot classification of the combined SRX unit. His early military conduct involved recklessness, disregarding tactical orders, and a lack of respect for authority, straining relationships with teammates like Raidiese F. Branstein, who saw him as a liability.
