Description
Takatoshi Hanadate, alias of Omodaka, originates from Kamigakari Village, born to village chief Tsukuhane under a coerced union. Denied maternal contact, his isolated upbringing bred profound loneliness. Discovering Tsukuhane’s affair with Enaga, Zakuro’s father, he exposed the liaison, resulting in Enaga’s execution—an act cementing his bitterness and yearning for belonging, later channeled into manipulating Zakuro.
Adopting the alias Takatoshi Hanadate, he infiltrates the Ministry of Spirit Affairs as a first lieutenant, engineering a mass murder case to assess Zakuro’s divine capabilities. Calculated and deceptive, he feigns vulnerability to earn her trust, his pseudonym mirroring his duplicity: “Takatoshi” (hawk, clever) and “Hanadate” (flower shield) alluding to veiled motives.
Revealed as Zakuro’s half-brother, Omodaka kidnaps her to Kamigakari Village, intending to exploit her power via forced marriage—a scheme rooted in twisted validation, believing their mother abandoned him. Tsukuhane’s spirit intervenes, revoking his abilities and reducing him to mortality. Rescued by Byakuroku, his devoted half-demon attendant and secret romantic interest, they flee together.
Post-conflict, he reconciles with Zakuro, tentatively accepting kinship. A critical juncture arises when Byakuroku shields him from the Jorogumo, sustaining injuries that provoke his emotional surge of latent power, vanquishing the threat. This moment highlights his fragile humanity and dependence on Byakuroku. Departing the village, they forge a quiet life, transitioning from scheming antagonist to a figure embracing subdued redemption.
His arc traces manipulation to tentative atonement, fueled by maternal rejection and gradual acknowledgment of familial ties. Byakuroku remains his emotional cornerstone, anchoring his shift from solitary vengeance to interdependent existence.
