Description
Grunhilde Serenity, also called Hilde, serves as the eighth princess of the Serenity Royal Family and is the younger sister of Gruier Serenity. Like her royal kin, her origin traces back to an artificial womb on the Golden Ghost Ship. During political instability within the Serenity Kingdom, Grunhilde initially sided with conservative factions, placing her in direct opposition to Gruier. She deployed the Serenity Defence Forces to locate the Golden Ghost Ship, intending to harness its resources to settle the royal succession crisis. This mission led her to threaten Gruier, then aboard the pirate ship Bentenmaru, demanding her withdrawal; Gruier refused. The conflict escalated to a boarding operation where Grunhilde succumbed to sleeping gas administered by Marika Kato. Upon awakening and learning of Marika's covert, peaceful resolution, Grunhilde reconciled with Gruier, and together they announced the ghost ship's return to Serenity.
Spurred by jealousy over Gruier's positive experiences, Grunhilde subsequently transferred to Hakuho Academy. She joined the school's yacht club alongside three other new members at the start of Marika Kato's second year. Grunhilde displayed a reserved and observant nature, distinct from Gruier's outgoing personality, though both sisters shared ambivalence toward their royal status. During an early visit to Marika’s home, an accidental taste of hot mustard led to her later receiving a toy as an apology while watching fireworks; she later confessed to Gruier that she understood her sister's admiration for Marika.
Through the yacht club, Grunhilde cultivated practical skills, mastering dinghy piloting via simulation training. She demonstrated tactical ingenuity in the club’s internal race for the Nebula Cup, securing second place by employing a tow-rope on a competitor’s board – a placement she replicated in the actual Nebula Cup tournament. Her technical expertise extended to ship operations; she assisted in managing systems aboard the Bentenmaru during an unscheduled cruise after stowing away on the Odette II with Gruier. During this event, she reassured Marika about their usefulness despite their royal status and helped execute an emergency faster-than-light jump to evade military detection.
In the "Abyss of Hyperspace" events, Grunhilde aided the yacht club’s recruitment preparations and interacted with Kanata Mugen, a guest at the Serenity residence. She frequently stared at him during breakfast, averted her gaze when noticed, and later researched his father’s background while he slept. After covering him with a blanket, she assured him of his safety, prompting peaceful rest. Her relationship with Gruier evolved from rivalry to mutual support, evident in their collaborative efforts aboard the Bentenmaru and shared experiences at Hakuho Academy. Though initially envious of Gruier’s closeness to Marika, Grunhilde gradually developed her own rapport with the Bentenmaru captain and other club members.
