Description
Cestvs, a fifteen-year-old enslaved gladiator with short dark blue hair tied by a bandana, battles for survival in the Roman Empire’s brutal arenas. Orphaned and thrust into combat, he trains under Zafar—a former slave boxer—who drills him in a rapid, evasion-focused style to offset his smaller stature. Initially hesitant to harm peers like his friend Rocco, Cestvs’ resolve hardens when Rocco is executed after a staged fight, exposing the lethal expendability of enslaved fighters.

Bound by a promise of freedom after 100 victories, Cestvs transforms trauma into relentless discipline, mastering strategic agility and precision to defeat stronger foes. His path weaves through Rome’s oppressive hierarchies, from clashes with Emperor Nero to interactions with military elites’ heirs, all while grappling with violence commodified as spectacle. As he evolves from a reluctant youth to a shrewd young adult, he clings to speed-centric tactics despite physical growth, refusing to sacrifice adaptability for brute strength.

Pivotal bonds shape his journey: Zafar’s gruff yet protective mentorship contrasts with rivalries like Ruska, whose hybrid brawling challenges Cestvs’ fluidity. Each victory becomes both tactical feat and quiet rebellion against systemic dehumanization. While the anime streamlines manga arcs, the broader narrative traces his shift from desperate survivalist to a tactician methodically dismantling his chains, threading themes of resilience through a world where exploitation masquerades as entertainment.
