Description
Otoha Sakurano is a 16-year-old girl standing 159 cm tall with light orange hair, yellow or orange eyes, and blood type O. Serving as a Master Sergeant, she was born on a small island in Japan's Seto Inland Sea. There, she lived with her grandfather and mother, her family running a traditional dojo. Her childhood involved diving for shellfish and nurturing a deep-seated dream of flight inspired by her grandfather's stories. She maintained rigorous daily sword training, achieving exceptional proficiency, and carried a bokuto named "Aibou" (partner) as a keepsake from home.

Military officials, led by Rei Hizuki, recruited her for the Sonic Diver program due to her innate pilot suitability, fulfilling her dream of flying but conflicting with her grandfather's hopes for her to inherit the dojo. Initially enthusiastic about non-combat piloting, she nearly withdrew upon learning the Sonic Divers would be weaponized against the WORMs, due to her aversion to violence and moral objections. Persuasion from her team and superiors ultimately secured her commitment.

Personality-wise, she exhibits a cheerful, optimistic, and polite demeanor, often spreading positivity. However, she reveals a fiercer, volatile side when provoked, reacting violently especially to perverted remarks from her unit's mechanic, Ryohei Tachibana. Despite their frequent clashes, she harbors unspoken romantic feelings for him. She struggles with tedious theoretical studies, preferring hands-on activities. Her laziness in routine tasks contrasts sharply with her dedication to flight training and sword practice, which she conducts near her Sonic Diver, sometimes disrupting Tachibana's work.

A significant personal history involves her twin brother, who vanished during their childhood while they discussed flying; a mass of light appeared at his disappearance. He later resurfaces as a messenger for the WORMs, adding emotional complexity to her conflict.

Assigned the Sonic Diver unit Reijin, which she nicknames "Zero", her piloting skills—initially unremarkable beyond her swordsmanship—develop significantly through training and combat. She prioritizes protecting others and spearheads efforts to emotionally support teammates, demonstrating strong empathy. Her journey includes forging bonds with initially distant colleagues like Eika Ichijo and helping traumatized members like Elise von Dietrich integrate into the team.
