Description
Mitoto Kuramitsu is a supporting character in the anime Tenchi Muyo! GXP and also appears in the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OVA series. She is the daughter of Minami Kuramitsu, the wife of Nakita Kuramitsu, and the mother of Mihoshi and Misao Kuramitsu. She works as a sanitation engineer, more commonly understood as a cleaning lady, for the Galaxy Police. Mitoto is unfailingly cheerful and often perceived as an airhead, but she demonstrates hyper-competence when faced with a crisis, possessing intimate knowledge of computer programs and security systems as a ship's operator. Her personality shares several traits with her daughter Mihoshi, including a carefree and sometimes clueless attitude, as well as an extraordinary degree of luck. Mitoto has a deep ability to concentrate on her goals, which sometimes leads her to wander great distances while cleaning; on one occasion she started cleaning a Galaxy Police station and was later found 80,000 light years away cleaning the floor of an elementary school on another planet. She has a habit of appearing in unexpected places such as Galactic Police battle cruisers or pirate ships, where she cleans without concern for her surroundings. A running joke is that she knows almost everyone in the galaxy because she has cleaned for them. She even entered General Daluma's secret fortress and remarked on the cleanliness of its floors. Mitoto met Seina Yamada when he was first brought from Earth to the Galaxy Police Academy, and she became fascinated with his crew-cut hair, which she constantly pets. She occasionally pops into Seina's life to help him, such as when she supervised Seiryo Tennan in cleaning toilets as part of a punishment. Mitoto also has an interest in antiquities, demonstrated when Mihoshi helped her evaluate a broken chamber pot that turned out to be a replica created by Washu. In the OVA series, she approves of Misao's proposal to Mashisu Makibi and convinces the Kuramitsu family council to allow the wedding. Mitoto bears a striking resemblance to her daughter Mihoshi, with tan skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair, though her hair is shorter and tied back. Her role in the story is primarily as a recurring comic relief figure and a quiet source of unexpected assistance, and over the course of the series she does not undergo significant personal development but remains a consistently cheerful and unknowingly capable presence.
