Description
Barrierfreeman begins as two distinct entities: Nils, a kind-hearted but inexperienced young wrestler dedicated to elderly advocacy, and Jiijoman, an elderly Swedish wrestler sealed within a tree for 200 years due to serial sexual harassment. Seeking strength, Nils freed Jiijoman under false pretenses, resulting in their fusion into the composite Choujin Barrierfreeman. This fusion embodies Nils's ideal of a "barrier-free" world for seniors. Barrierfreeman physically manifests in two primary forms: a muscular blue humanoid dominated by Nils, with Jiijoman emerging from the right arm and left shoulder, or a slender, diaper-clad form controlled by Jiijoman, housing Nils folded within a stomach pouch. The "Mimic Hand" ability facilitates seamless switching between these forms and primary controllers.
Initially, Barrierfreeman acted upon Jiijoman's lecherous and violent impulses, including groping women during matches. At the Chojin Olympics, fighting Mantaro Kinniku under the banner of elderly advocacy, Jiijoman manipulated crowds by purchasing senior-filled seats to boo Mantaro, framing the contest as a stand against "elder abuse." This facade shattered when Jiijoman assaulted elderly spectators, turning the audience hostile. Mantaro's victory forcibly separated Nils and Jiijoman, leaving Jiijoman near death. Defying the crowd's demand for vengeance, Nils forgave Jiijoman and reintegrated him, affirming his unwavering commitment to protecting the elderly despite Jiijoman's flaws, marking the start of Jiijoman's redemption.
During the Demon Seed arc, Barrierfreeman confronted Tattooman to rescue Meat's explosive-rigged leg. Flashbacks during the battle revealed Barrierfreeman's growing resolve to use his powers for good, influenced by Mars's earlier lifesaving act. The fight ended in a double knockout at the 29-minute mark. With only 20 seconds before detonation, Nils and Jiijoman separated to free Meat's leg, sacrificing themselves in the explosion. Their deaths were later reversed by the Reborn Diamond, enabling them to aid in subsequent battles. This sacrifice solidified their reformation, especially for Jiijoman, who prioritized heroism over self-preservation.
In the Ultimate Choujin Tag Tournament arc, Barrierfreeman appeared as one of the Time Warp 8, traveling to 1983 to prevent Robin Mask's assassination. Jiijoman served as the primary form here, with Nils less prominent. Barrierfreeman contributed to building a time ship, though comedic tendencies persisted, such as attempts to smuggle adult toys aboard. His role underscored integration into the Idol Choujin ranks despite retaining Jiijoman's lecherous quirks.
Barrierfreeman's techniques include the spine-targeting "Narayama Backbreaker" finisher and the "Sai no Kawara Lariat." His physiology grants standard Choujin traits like superhuman strength and flight. Post-reformation, he consistently fought alongside justice-aligned characters, with later appearances emphasizing Jiijoman as the dominant persona while maintaining the fusion's core dynamic.
