Description
Selene McGriff, a Coordinator born and raised in space, has parents affiliated with the Deep Space Survey and Development Organization. She served as an engineer on the DSSD's GSX-401FW Stargazer Project, utilizing expertise in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer programming, and advanced physics to develop deep-space exploration mobile suits. During transit to a DSSD launch site, a confrontation with ZAFT forces led to a colleague sacrificing himself to secure her escape, allowing her to reach a DSSD space station via shuttle.
When Phantom Pain forces assaulted the DSSD facility to seize the Stargazer's technology, Selene joined the station's defense. She piloted the non-combat Stargazer mobile suit against the Earth Alliance's elite unit, displaying adaptability under pressure. After the attack, she and Phantom Pain soldier Sven Cal Bayang became stranded aboard the Stargazer in deep space between Earth and Venus. With oxygen reserves dwindling to an estimated 27 days, Selene activated a hibernation protocol for both to conserve resources. DSSD personnel, including Sol Ryuune L'ange, recovered them alive 669 hours later.
Selene exhibits determination in scientific pursuits and a generally friendly demeanor, though occasional ego surfaces. She is the first female protagonist in an animated Gundam production. Manga continuations confirm her survival and return, with Sven later joining the DSSD.
