Description
Larva P. Grasshop is a grasshopper-type Invectid who served within the Invectid Big Four, tasked with capturing Oracle Keys for their leader, Mantid. His tall, dark-blue insectoid form was originally distinguished by a brown collar with gold lining and a teal-and-orange-lined cape; after leaving the group, he wore a simpler brown cape.

His time in the Big Four was characterized by repeated mission failures against the Spider Riders, resulting in disdain from his comrades and his family. Grasshop joined primarily to provide for and earn the pride of his wife, Weeval, and their children, Step and Jump. Weeval considered his promotion a mistake, believing his inherently gentle nature and fondness for children made him unsuited for combat and villainy. This kindness manifested as reluctance to fight, especially against the Spider Riders.

His first significant clash with the Spider Riders involved an attack on a human village where he faced Hunter Steele. After insults and learning Hunter was a Spider Rider, Grasshop attempted to defeat him but failed and retreated. Subsequent missions also ended in failure. During one mission to stall the riders while Buguese searched for a key, Grasshop deliberately revealed the keys' existence to sabotage Buguese and discredit him before Mantid. This act, combined with his later failure to secure the Oracle Key from Nuuma (where Princess Sparkle defeated him), led to his expulsion. Believing himself banished, he wandered the Inner World, initially vowing revenge.

Grasshop's exile marked a turning point. Assisting Sparkle's escape earned him the traitor label from the Invectids. Sparkle, Princess of Arachna, forgave him despite their initial enmity during the Nuuman Key incident. She grew deeply fond of him, allowing him to accompany her journey and affectionately naming him "Uncle Hop." Learning about his family moved Sparkle, and their bond strengthened; they became nearly inseparable, protecting each other. Sparkle even adopted some of his speech patterns. This relationship changed Grasshop's perspective, fostering trust in humans.

His alignment with the Spider Riders solidified through key actions. He disabled the regeneration device on the Battle Beetle during a confrontation in Nuuma, enabling Hunter's victory. Later, encountering the injured Big Four member Beerain, he tended to her wounds and urged her to join him and Sparkle after witnessing Buguese reject her. Though Beerain declined, Grasshop's explanation – that Sparkle saw good in him and the other riders trusted him, proving coexistence possible – prompted her to reveal crucial information about reaching Mantid's fortress.

Grasshop demonstrated profound courage by confronting Mantid directly, attempting to reason with him. He stated his time with humans showed they weren't mean or greedy as Mantid claimed, offering his own life in exchange for sparing the Spider Riders. This act convinced the riders of his inherent goodness. Mantid attempted to kill him, but Buguese intervened. Though dropped and terrified, Grasshop survived unharmed, with Sparkle rushing to his side. The Spider Riders, including Hunter, Corona, Magma, and Igneous, apologized for misjudging him.

Guiding the Spider Riders through the citadel sewers, Grasshop achieved his heartfelt goal: reuniting with his overjoyed family, Weeval, Step, and Jump. Recognizing the ongoing threat, he joined the riders in the final battle against Mantid to save their home. After Mantid's defeat, he humorously boasted to his family about single-handedly defeating Mantid and restoring the Oracle Sun.

Grasshop is the only known Invectid with a full name (Larva P. Grasshop, noted as dub-only in some sources) and the only Big Four member known to have a family. He was the first major Invectid antagonist to be reformed and join the Spider Riders. A peculiar trait is his claimed fear of heights, though whether genuine or a tactic to avoid Mantid's attack remains ambiguous.
