TV-Series
Description
Mera stands as a prominent member of Bukuro's Wu-Ronz gang under crime lord Buppa. His bald head, facial hair, and kanji necklace create a distinct appearance. A feared and respected fighter within Tokyo's underworld, he wields a katana in combat.

His past includes a significant high school friendship with Kai of the rival Musashino Saru gang, a bond shattered when Mera joined the Wu-Ronz. Large-scale conflict erupts after Mera kills three Musashino Saru members—Kim and two others—mistaking them for Shibuya Saru intruders on Wu-Ronz territory. Two days later, a confrontation with Kai results in Mera decapitating Musashino Saru leader Tera, igniting a Tokyo gang war.

A deeper layer reveals Buppa murdered Mera's parents, dismembered them, and preserved their bodies in formaldehyde tanks. Mera discovers this truth later, confronting Buppa, who displays no recollection. This triggers Mera's breakdown, expressed through laughter before he kills Buppa using the crime lord's own methods. Mera previously demonstrated complex connections, caring for Sunmi, a prostitute resembling Fujio—a woman from his past linked to both him and Kai. Fujio died after being hit by a train, an event manipulated by Mera's subordinate Skunk. Skunk falsely implicated Kai to drive a wedge between Mera and Kai, exploiting Mera's trust.

Mera's relationship with Skunk, his right-hand man seeking approval and friendship, is fraught with Mera's indifference. When Mera focuses on Sunmi, Skunk orchestrates a gang takeover using Buppa's resources. After Buppa's death, Skunk kidnaps Sunmi—revealed as a Hong Kong underworld boss's granddaughter—leading to his demise when assassin Jada Kins throws him onto train tracks. In the anime, Skunk survives the impact long enough to shoot Mera.

The live-action film adaptation alters Mera's arc significantly. His animosity toward Kai stems from discovering Kai has a larger penis, perceived as a threat to his manhood. This deviation simplifies his character, omitting the layered backstory involving his parents' murder and complex relationships. His fate in this adaptation also differs, lacking the detailed betrayal and downfall.

Mera's development showcases moral ambiguity. He participates in or condones extreme violence under Buppa, witnessing acts like a woman's limbs being severed. Yet, his care for Sunmi and ultimate rejection of Buppa upon learning the truth suggest a capacity for loyalty and retribution beyond gang allegiance. His journey concludes with his death at Skunk's hands in the anime, ending a trajectory defined by betrayal, misplaced loyalty, and the cyclical nature of gang violence.
