Description
Eclipse, secretly Prince Shade of the Moon Kingdom and Princess Milky's older brother, operates incognito under his Eclipse alias. This disguise features a dark blue cowboy hat, black coat, light blue shirt with a yellow tie, gray pants, and white cowboy boots, complemented by a combat whip. It enables discreet travel with his loyal dragon companion, Regina, who heeds only his commands. As Prince Shade, he dons a gold coat with a short navy blue cape, marked by symbols signifying his royal status.

Shade possesses a calm, pragmatic, and observant nature, frequently prioritizing strategic objectives over emotional responses. His well-founded skepticism fosters distrust and a preference for solitary action, evident in his early suspicion of a conspiring minister. Despite this, profound loyalty to his family drives him, leading him to risk injury to protect Queen Moon Malia and Princess Milky. Intelligence defines him, reflected in his book-filled room, interest in astronomy, and later expertise in botany.

His background involves a solitary mission to save the Mysterious Star, initially seeking the power of the Prominence. As Eclipse, he observes and tests the twin princesses Fine and Rein, occasionally employing deceptive or confrontational tactics like luring them into traps to assess their abilities. This brings him into conflict with Prince Bright, who first mistakes him for a thief and later opposes him due to perceived threats to Fine. Shade eventually abandons his lone mission, allying with the twins.

Shade's character arc differs across media:
- **Anime**: His initial romantic interest in Rein transitions to Fine by the first season's end. He demonstrates this through actions like accepting her poorly made chocolates and weeping when she loses her happiness in the second season finale. Their relationship culminates in a shared dance after the Black Crystal King's defeat.
- **Manga**: He consistently pursues Rein, disregarding Fine's feelings. His persistence includes rescue attempts and an interrupted kiss attempt, with the narrative implying Rein eventually reciprocates.

Familial bonds are central to Shade. He reads stories to Milky, uniquely understands her babbling (a trait shared only with Fine and possibly Narlo), and aspires to become a doctor to treat his chronically ill mother. His multifaceted role extends to relationships like mentoring Tio and navigating a complex rivalry-turned-camaraderie with Bright.
