Description
Sa Enjun, titled Sataiho or Advisor Sa, served as Taiho—one of three Grand Advisors to Saiunkoku's Emperor. He previously counseled Emperor Shi Senka, father of the current ruler, Shi Ryuuki. As former head of the Sa Clan (the Brown Clan), Enjun represented one of Saiunkoku's eight great noble houses. The clan’s spiral peacock seal marked Sa Province as their ancestral seat.

The Sa Clan wielded the least power among the nobility and pursued influence through corruption, blackmail, and crime. Under Enjun’s leadership, these tactics tarnished their reputation and fueled chaos in Sa Province. Despite his high office, Enjun chafed at his inability to surpass his colleague, Grand Advisor Sho—an unfulfilled ambition defining his tenure.

Enjun married Hyou Eiki of the Hyou Clan, whose lineage held supernatural ties to the imperial family. Eiki later advised the Sa Clan’s subsequent head, Sa Kokujun. Their granddaughter, Sa Shunki, inherited Hyou supernatural abilities despite lacking formal clan status. The couple also adopted Kourin, who became Kou Shuurei’s lady-in-waiting before marrying Tou Eigetsu.

Enjun’s younger brother, Sa Chuushou, embodied corruption and ambition. Chuushou’s grandsons—Sa Soujun, Sa Sakujun, and Sa Kokujun—perpetuated the clan’s illicit activities, with Sakujun reviving the "Murderous Blades" assassins. Faced with the clan’s escalating corruption and its destabilizing effect on Saiunkoku, a disillusioned Enjun resigned as Taiho.

His resignation marked the Sa Clan’s decline, though his wife Eiki continued influencing clan affairs as advisor to the new head, Kokujun. Enjun’s departure reflected his struggle against the dynasty’s deep-rooted moral compromises.
