Description
Mikoto Yamato is a human adventurer originally from the Far East who, after the death of her parents, was raised in an orphanage run by Tsukuyomi and Takemikazuchi. She eventually joined the Takemikazuchi Familia and moved to Orario with the rest of the familia to earn money to support the shrine. Two years before the main events of the story, she became a Level 2 adventurer. She temporarily converted to the Hestia Familia to assist them in the War Game against the Apollo Familia, intending to return to her original familia within a year once she could convert again.

Her personality is serious and honorable, and she is deeply unwilling to use cowardly tactics even in emergencies. She is also a terrible liar, unable to hide any secret, a trait that others have noted makes her similar to Bell Cranel. Despite her stern exterior, she has a softer, fiercely loyal side, caring deeply for her friends and often downplaying her own contributions out of humility. One of her favorite pastimes is relaxing in a cypress bath or at a hot spring, and she even has a ritual she follows before entering the water.

In the story, Mikoto serves as a capable fighter and steadfast ally. She participates in the War Game as a key combatant, later joining the Hestia Familia on expeditions and missions. Her relationships are marked by strong loyalty to her god Takemikazuchi and to her fellow adventurers, especially Sanjouno Haruhime, whom she and the other Takemikazuchi Familia members used to sneak out of her mansion to play with. She also develops a close bond with Bell Cranel and the rest of the Hestia Familia, working alongside them through dangerous ordeals. Over the course of the series, Mikoto grows more confident in her abilities and more willing to rely on others, though her core sense of honor remains unchanged.

As a Level 2 adventurer, Mikoto possesses greatly enhanced physical abilities beyond those of a normal person. She is a highly skilled martial artist trained by Takemikazuchi, mastering multiple fighting styles including judo, which she can use effectively against human opponents. She is proficient with a wide range of weapons, but favors a katana, and is also skilled with spears, axes, bows, short swords, shurikens, and kunais. She has training in ninjutsu, though she prefers not to use it because it relies on sneak attacks and ambushes that conflict with her honest nature, but she will employ it when protecting those she cares about. Her notable techniques include Mikazuchi, a powerful jumping throw that slams an opponent into the ground, and Zekka, an advanced quick-draw technique. She uses the gravity magic Futsunomitama, which summons a dark purple sword of light that creates a dome-shaped force field, capable of crushing a designated area and even temporarily halting a Level 5 monster. Additionally, she possesses the skills Yatanokurogarasu, which allows her to search for enemies within a range, and Yatanoshirogarasu, which lets her locate members of the same familia. Her development ability is Abnormal Resistance, granting immunity to poisons and other abnormalities. She is also a skilled cook and capable of concurrent chanting, casting magic while moving or fighting.
