Sirio il Dragone, known as Shiryu in Japanese media, is the Bronze Saint of the Dragon constellation. Trained at China's Lushan Five Old Peaks by the Gold Saint Libra Dohko, he earned his Dragon Cloth by reversing a waterfall through cosmic mastery. This Cloth offers exceptional defense, particularly its shield, hardened for centuries under mineral-rich waters. A dragon manifestation appears on his back when his cosmos surges, fading as his life force wanes, serving as a mortality indicator.
He temporarily died confronting Pegasus Seiya in the Galaxian Wars, revealing a vulnerability in his Rising Dragon Force technique where his heart is momentarily exposed. He later sacrificed his vision to defeat the Silver Saint Perseus Algol, gouging his eyes to nullify petrification. Though adapting to blindness, he regained sight during the battle against Cancer Deathmask by awakening his seventh sense. His abilities include Rising Dragon Force (Rozan Shōryūha), Dragon Flight (Ryūhishō), and the rarely used kamikaze technique Enraged Dragon (Kōryūha). After defeating Capricorn Shura, he inherited the Excalibur technique, channeling cosmos into his right arm to manifest cutting energy capable of severing divine weapons, though initially less refined than Shura's version.
During the Poseidon arc, he used Excalibur to destroy General Chrysaor Krishna's spear and scale armor, losing his eyesight again in the clash. Repaired with Gold Saint blood, his Cloth temporarily gained gold-like properties when his seventh sense peaked, though its base power remained Bronze-level.
In the Hades Chapter - Sanctuary, he defied Athena's orders to aid his master Dohko, battling resurrected Gold Saints while blind. He learned the Hundred Dragons Force (Hyakuryūha) technique from Dohko, though the acquisition method while sightless was unexplained. He participated in halting the Athena Exclamation clash, displaying intense grief over Athena's apparent death.
In the Inferno chapter, he descended into the Underworld paired with Cygnus Hyoga. He demonstrated tactical wisdom by recounting past blindness to contextualize challenges. Confronted by Specters near the Hyperdimension, he voluntarily remained to hold off adversaries, including Basilisk Sylphid, deploying Hundred Dragons Force to obliterate three Specters simultaneously despite witnessing the technique only once. This sacrifice allowed his comrades to advance toward Athena. During Elysion events, he awakened the eighth sense to traverse the Underworld alive. His Cloth evolved into a God Cloth after anointment with Athena's blood, enabling him to battle the twin gods Hypnos and Thanatos and aid in defeating Hades.
In later continuations, he adopted a son, Shoryu, and traveled to the 18th-century Holy War in *Next Dimension*, where he was designated the future Libra Gold Saint. *Saint Seiya Omega* depicts his marriage to Shunrei and their son Ryūhō. After losing all five senses in an unspecified incident, he retired as a Saint, passing the Dragon Cloth to Ryūhō. His senses later restored, he fought Pallasites wearing the Libra Gold Cloth.
Physical resilience defines his battles, frequently enduring severe blood loss and bodily trauma. His fighting style combines disciplined cosmic control inherited from Dohko with sudden explosive techniques, often escalating to self-sacrificial maneuvers when protecting allies.
