Exclusive to the Saint Seiya anime adaptation, the Crystal Saint mentored Cygnus Hyoga and Kraken Isaac. His creation stemmed from the anime outpacing manga progress during early arcs, leading to original content that later contradicted the canonical establishment of Aquarius Camus as Hyoga's master. The character's true name remains undisclosed, with "Crystal" identifying his saint classification rather than a personal name.
As a Silver Saint, he exhibited honorable and righteous conduct, balancing kindness with austerity while training Hyoga and Isaac in Siberia. Pope Arles—later unmasked as the traitorous Gemini Saga—deemed him a threat and forcibly subdued him using the Genrou Maou Ken mind-control technique. This coercion turned him into an unwilling antagonist.
His combat prowess centered on cryokinesis:
- Frozen Fist immobilized foes by freezing their feet to the ground.
- Diamond Dust crystallized atmospheric moisture into projected ice shards.
These techniques established him as a formidable warrior, with narrative undertones suggesting he posed a credible challenge to Sanctuary's leadership.
During a Siberian confrontation with Hyoga, the emotional intensity of battling his student briefly shattered his mind control. To prevent further exploitation by Sanctuary and protect Siberia from conquest, he ended his own life.
Later canonical media, including the Hades Chapter OVAs and manga continuations, omit the Crystal Saint to maintain series consistency. Hades arc flashbacks explicitly designate Aquarius Camus as Hyoga's sole mentor, aligning with the manga. The character lacks appearances in Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter – Inferno and other OVAs, which follow manga continuity. Spin-offs and films similarly exclude him.
Designer Michi Himeno based the Crystal Cloth's aesthetic details on Henri Toulouse-Lautrec's Art Nouveau style.
