Luigi Rosa
Description
Luigi Rosa, also known by the pseudonym Gigi Rosa, is an Italian voice actor, dubbing director, and dialogue writer born in Turin on January 24, 1966. He began his entertainment career at a young age, studying diction and acting, and by the age of 13, he had already gained considerable experience. Before turning 25, he performed in numerous theatrical productions alongside established actors such as Alida Valli and Umberto Orsini.
Rosa is highly regarded for his extensive work in the Italian dubbing of anime, having lent his voice to a wide array of iconic characters. He is perhaps best known for being the first Italian voice of Monkey D. Luffy in the long-running series One Piece, a role he performed for the first 255 episodes and various films released between 2000 and 2004. In 2019, he returned to the franchise as the dubbing director for the film One Piece Stampede. For the film's home video release, he also returned to voice Luffy in a special alternate audio track, marking his first time voicing the character in nearly twelve years. His other notable roles in the medium include Crystal, the Cygnus Saint, in the various series and films of Saint Seiya (I Cavalieri dello Zodiaco), Gaara in Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, Ryohei Yamazaki in the Junk Boy OAV, Baoh in BAOH, Yuta in Mermaid Forest, Kabamaru in Igano Kabamaru, and Rei in Fist of the North Star: Legend of Yuria.
His portfolio also includes a wide range of other characters. He voiced Jiro in the film The Dagger of Kamui, Amakusa Shiro Tokisada in Samurai Shodown: The Motion Picture, Ryu in the Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, Alex Fox (Shunsuke) in the latter half of The Kabocha Wine (known in Italy as Sun College), Carlos in Moero! Top Striker, Tadashi Shiroyama in the 2018 Captain Tsubasa series, and a multitude of characters in the Andersen Monogatari series, including Alfredo, Angelo Peter, Carl, Chris, Ibby, Kirk, Marco, Principe Peter, Rudy, Spazzacamino, and Tom. More recently, he voiced Eliott Leland in the film Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, for which he also served as dubbing director.
In addition to his voice work, Luigi Rosa is an accomplished dubbing director and dialogue writer. His credits in these roles include the Italian adaptations of One Piece Stampede, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, Lupin the Third: Part 5, and Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day. He has also been active in dubbing for live-action productions and video games, providing, for example, the Italian voice of Beavis in the early seasons of Beavis and Butt-Head and Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter video game series.
