Andromeda Shun is a Bronze Saint in service to the goddess Athena and the younger brother of Phoenix Ikki. Though he possesses a gentle and kind disposition that makes him reluctant to engage in violence, Shun is considered one of the strongest among the Bronze Saints. He prefers to resolve conflict without bloodshed but will fight when necessary.
Shun trained on Andromeda Island, where he endured the Sacrifice of Andromeda—chained to sea cliffs and forced to free himself before the rising tide drowned him. Unlike others who used force, Shun broke the chains through his affection for his brother. After obtaining his Cloth, he traveled to Japan for the Galaxian Wars, hoping to find Ikki.
During the tournament, Shun battled Unicorn Jabu, using his Nebula Chains to defend himself and damage Jabu’s Cloth. He later joined the other Bronze Saints to retrieve the stolen Sagittarius Gold Cloth from his brother. After learning Saori Kido was Athena, Shun rebelled against the corrupted Sanctuary.
In the ensuing conflict, Shun faced multiple Gold Saints. He briefly awakened his Seventh Sense to escape the Another Dimension illusion in the Gemini Temple and confronted Virgo Shaka, though he was easily defeated. After Ikki’s sacrifice, Shun helped free Hyoga from the Freezing Coffin and defeated Pisces Aphrodite using Nebula Storm, though he collapsed from Aphrodite’s Bloody Rose.
During the battle against Poseidon, Shun defeated Marina General Io of Scylla and later Siren Sorento, choosing to imprison rather than kill him. He assisted Athena and the other Bronze Saints in confronting the sea god.
In the conflict with Hades, it was revealed that Shun is the human incarnation of the god of the Underworld, his pure soul making him a suitable vessel. After losing a childhood pendant that suppressed the god’s influence, Shun was possessed by Hades. His appearance altered, with his hair turning black and his skin growing paler. Athena eventually expelled Hades’ soul, and Shun traveled to Elysium with the other Bronze Saints. There, they attained God Cloths to battle Hades and his subordinates, Hypnos and Thanatos.
Shun manipulates Cosmo, the universe’s primordial energy, and wields the Nebula Chains, which can attack, defend, and sense threats autonomously. His techniques include Thunder Wave, Rolling Defence, Nebula Stream, and Nebula Storm. His Cloth evolved into a God Cloth during the final battle against Hades.
Shun is often described as handsome, even beautiful, a trait inspired by the Andromeda constellation’s association with beauty in Greek mythology. In the manga, he has brownish-red hair and blue eyes; in the anime, his hair and eyes are green. When possessed by Hades, his hair turns black in the manga and reddish in the anime.
The character appears across various media, including the original manga, anime series, OVAs such as *Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Inferno*, and spin-offs like *Saint Seiya: Next Dimension*, where it is noted that he resembles Alone, the 18th-century reincarnation of Hades.
