Orfeo della Lira, the Silver Saint of Lyra, possesses power exceeding even Gold Saints, earning legendary status. His mastery of Cosmo energy and the Seventh Sense makes him one of Athena's most formidable warriors. He wields atomic-destructive strength, moves at light speed, and endures extreme conditions, his Silver Cloth resisting temperatures down to -200°C. His lyre serves as both weapon and instrument: its strings slice opponents while melodies inflict harm or induce deep sleep. Key techniques include String Nocturne (energy bursts via sound), Death Trip Serenade (hypnotic sleep), and Final Chord (string entrapment and dismemberment).
Born in Greece and trained at the Sanctuary, Orfeo focused on music, often performing for the Grand Pope and Gold Saints, displaying combat indifference despite his prowess. Meeting Eurydice changed everything. Her death from a snakebite drove him to voluntarily enter the Underworld. His lyre moved Hades, who permitted Eurydice's return under one condition: Orfeo must not look back during their ascent. Nearing the surface, Pandora and the Specter Sphinx Pharaoh conspired against them. Pharaoh used a mirror to create artificial sunlight, tricking Orfeo into glancing at Eurydice. This caused her partial petrification, trapping her eternally in the Underworld. Grief-stricken, Orfeo remained with her, playing his lyre eternally and pledging allegiance to Hades in gratitude for the attempted resurrection. His prolonged absence led the Sanctuary to presume his death.
During the Holy War against Hades, Orfeo reappeared in the Second Prison alongside Pharaoh, seemingly aligned with Hades. He faced Pegasus Seiya and Andromeda Shun, incapacitating them with String Nocturne but deliberately sparing their lives. At Eurydice's petrified form in a garden, she implored the Bronze Saints to take Orfeo away, valuing his freedom over his companionship. Orfeo later warned them to abandon their quest. When Athena's Cloth, carried by Seiya, flew toward Pharaoh, Orfeo realized the Specter's mirror had deceived him years before. Enraged, he attacked Pharaoh, destroying the mirror and acknowledging his error in defying natural law—that life's beauty stems from its singular, mortal nature. Pharaoh shattered Orfeo's lyre string during their duel, but Orfeo tensioned it with his teeth, ultimately defeating Pharaoh with String Nocturne. After bidding farewell to Eurydice, he allied with Seiya and Shun to assassinate Hades.
Orfeo smuggled Seiya and Shun inside a flower coffer to Hades' palace in Giudecca, exploiting his scheduled performance. Suspicious Pandora stabbed the coffer with her trident but failed to discover the hidden Saints. Orfeo's Death Trip Serenade hypnotized Pandora and Judges Minos and Aiacos, but Wyvern Radamanthys remained unaffected, anticipating betrayal. Radamanthys impaled Orfeo through the chest. Seiya and Shun emerged to assist, but Orfeo proceeded toward Hades' throne. He unleashed Final Chord upon recognizing Hades' resemblance to Shun, only to destroy an illusion. Gravely wounded, he restrained Radamanthys and urged Seiya to attack them both. After Seiya complied with Pegasus Ryusei Ken, Orfeo entrusted Athena's protection to the Bronze Saints before dying in Seiya's arms, fulfilling his redemption as a loyal Saint.
Sharing narrative parallels with the mythical Orpheus—musical genius, love for Eurydice, tragic loss—Orfeo della Lira exists as a distinct entity within Saint Seiya's continuity. His legacy embodies themes of love, sacrifice, and ultimate loyalty to Athena.
