Shinha Fujibayashi hails from Mizuho, a hidden ninja village in Tethe'alla. Discovered as a child in the woods, she was adopted by the village chief. At nine years old, her attempt to forge a pact with Volt, the Summon Spirit of Lightning, at his temple ended catastrophically. Volt, speaking an unknown tongue, rejected her due to past human betrayal and unleashed destruction, killing a quarter of Mizuho's population and leaving her adoptive grandfather comatose. This failure burdened her with deep guilt and a desperate need for atonement. Dispatched as an assassin to the decaying world of Sylvarant, Shinha targeted Colette Brunel, the Chosen of Regeneration, aiming to halt Sylvarant's rebirth and prevent Tethe'alla's decline. Initial encounters with Colette's group painted her as an inept foe, failing multiple assassination attempts at locations like Ossa Trail and Balacruf Mausoleum. During these clashes, she revealed her motive to save her own world but consistently retreated before revealing more, driven by duty to Mizuho and the weight of her past failure. A pivotal shift occurred in the ruined town of Luin. Injured defending citizens from Desians, Shinha was healed by Colette's party. Witnessing Colette's kindness and selflessness shattered her resolve to kill. She aided the group's infiltration of the Asgard Human Ranch to rescue survivors, ultimately using her last teleportation seal to save them during the mission. This act marked her transition from antagonist to ally, and she joined the party permanently, abandoning her mission. Her growing empathy, especially towards Colette, clashed with her original purpose. Her character development focused on mastering summoning. After successfully forming her first pact with Undine, Summon Spirit of Water, to rescue a trapped unicorn, she sought pacts with other spirits. This quest led back to Volt at the Temple of Lightning. When Volt attacked, Corrine—a human-made Summon Spirit and Shinha's constant companion—sacrificed himself to save her. Corrine's death galvanized Shinha to confront Volt again, securing a hard-won pact that honored Corrine's legacy and partially absolved her guilt over Mizuho's tragedy. She later formed pacts with all remaining Summon Spirits: Gnome, Celsius, Efreet, Sylph, Shadow, and Luna and Aska. These pacts severed the mana links binding Sylvarant and Tethe'alla, destabilizing the Giant Kharlan Tree. Shinha then channeled the summoned spirits' power to activate the Mana Cannon, stabilizing the tree at Lloyd Irving's signal. Internal conflicts awaited in Mizuho. Kuchinawa, a villager blaming her for his parents' deaths during Volt's rampage, revealed himself as a traitor. Shinha dueled him alone and emerged victorious. She prevented his suicide, urging him to find purpose in life, which led to his departure. Later, she arranged protection for allies Altessa and Tabatha following Mithos's betrayal. Post-crisis, Shinha returned to Mizuho as its chief. Two years later, during the events of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, she reappeared to aid Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi. She intervened during their confrontation with the Vanguard in the Temple of Ice, expressing concern over Lloyd Irving's alleged involvement in Palmacosta's massacre. After assisting in defeating Richter Abend and halting the planetary fusion's repercussions, she reaffirmed her friendship with Emil and attended the gathering at the new World Tree with the reunited group. In combat, Shinha employs magic-infused paper seals and cards for elemental attacks, healing, resurrection, and trapping foes. Trained in the Igaguri ninja style, she exhibits high agility, acrobatic prowess, and hand-to-hand combat skill. Her summoning abilities allow her to invoke elemental spirits, channeling their mana for powerful assaults. An Exsphere grants her enhanced physical capabilities, including superhuman speed and resilience. Personality-wise, Shinha balances toughness with underlying kindness. Initially stern and mission-driven, her interactions with Colette's group revealed her compassionate nature, especially towards children and comrades. She often met Zelos Wilder's flirtations with violent reactions. Her loyalty and sense of responsibility defined her actions, from protecting Luin's citizens to leading Mizuho's recovery, reflecting her transition from guilt-ridden assassin to committed leader.
