Description
Isuzu Soma, known as Rin, embodies the Horse spirit in the Sohma zodiac. Her parents crafted an illusion of loving devotion during her childhood, until Rin questioned their happiness. This provoked severe neglect and physical abuse culminating in hospitalization and explicit rejection, banishing her from home. She resided with Kagura Sohma’s family, but their authentic warmth magnified her isolation.

Rin possesses long black hair, originally hip-length but unevenly severed by Akito during imprisonment. A prominent scar traces her back from Akito shoving her through a second-story window—retribution after Rin shielded Haru by confessing their relationship. The fall inflicted grave injuries, emblematic of curse-bound trauma. Her modern rock-inspired style favors revealing clothing, starkly offset by her reserved nature.

Fiercely independent and stubborn, Rin’s emotional guardedness stems from abuse. She scorns the zodiac’s submission to Akito and avoids relying on others, convinced her presence harms them. This self-sacrifice drove her to end her romance with Haru for his protection and pursue breaking the curse solely to free him, disregarding her own happiness. Though initially hostile toward compassionate figures like Tohru Honda—perceiving kindness as weakness—Rin secretly respects them and fears becoming their burden.

Her bond with Haru began in childhood when he defended her during parental abandonment. Their secret adolescent romance violated Akito’s ban on zodiac relationships. After Akito’s violent retaliation, Rin isolated herself and sought to shatter the curse alone. She manipulated Ren Sohma, who deceitfully promised curse-breaking knowledge in exchange for stealing Akito’s prized box. This led to Rin’s imprisonment in the Cat’s room, enduring psychological torment until Kureno freed her.

Post-rescue, Rin reconciled with Haru, accepting his steadfast support and acknowledging she couldn’t bear burdens alone. She developed protective loyalty toward Tohru, recognizing Tohru’s role in challenging the family’s suffering. After the curse broke, Rin’s unresolved trauma manifested as persistent anger; she openly refused to forgive Akito while forging a future with Haru.

In *Fruits Basket Another*, Rin married Haru and mothered twins, Sora and Riku, committing to familial stability unlike her fractured upbringing. Stress-induced stomach ulcers and erratic eating habits lingered as trauma remnants, though sharing meals with Haru and Tohru signaled gradual healing.
