TV-Series
Description
Hamilcar Barcas, also known as Barcas the Elder or Old Bal, serves as a primary antagonist in the Guyver series. A European merchant, he survived a shipwreck roughly 400 years before the main events, washing ashore on Silha island. There, he discovered a temple housing the dormant Archanfel. Overwhelmed with reverence, Barcas awakened the being. Archanfel transformed him into the first Zoalord by implanting a zoacrystal in his forehead and granting extended longevity. Tasked by Archanfel, Barcas recruited ten others to form the Council of Twelve, establishing the Chronos organization.

Physically, he presents as an elderly man with long grey hair framing a bald head, complemented by a grey beard and moustache; the zoacrystal remains visible on his forehead. Despite this frail appearance, he wields immense telepathic power, considered the greatest among the Zoalords except Archanfel himself. This psychic prowess enables him to project thought waves controlling Zoanoids across vast distances, forcibly transforming humans or compelling their self-destruction. He uniquely never demonstrates a transformed combat form, relying solely on his telepathy and strategic intellect.

As Chronos's chief scientist, Barcas designed the first Hyper-Zoanoids and finalized optimization processes for most Zoalords. His scientific work directly enabled Chronos's global ambitions, including the event known as X-Day. His seniority and unwavering loyalty to Archanfel earned him high respect within the Council of Twelve. This loyalty was evident when, following his failure to secure Guyver units or control spheres during the Arizona Relics incident, Archanfel personally intervened to prevent Barcas from pursuing Guyver III, suggesting concern for his safety or acknowledgment of his limitations against adversaries like Gigantic Dark.

Barcas exhibits a ruthless and calculating nature. He orchestrated the kidnapping and zoanoid transformation of Sho Fukamachi's father into Enzyme II, using him as bait against Sho. After Chronos's global takeover on X-Day, he continued refining Zoanoids, developing specialized models like Enzyme III specifically designed to eliminate Guyvers.

In the live-action film adaptation, the character diverges significantly. Renamed Fulton Balcus, he appears as the sole Zoalord and primary antagonist, lacking the elderly appearance. His motivations differ, focusing on acquiring a Guyver unit for personal power. This version is defeated by the Guyver's mega-smasher and displays a more directly antagonistic nature, comparable to ambitious Zoalords like Guyot in the primary narrative.

His name derives from the historical Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca, father of Hannibal, reflecting connotations of leadership and strategic legacy.
