Description
Midori Yamabuki, later known as Midori Norimaki after marriage, serves as a primary supporting character. She works as a teacher at Penguin Village Junior High School and is introduced as the homeroom teacher of Arale Norimaki. Her first encounter with Senbei Norimaki happens when he attempts to enroll Arale in school, and he becomes instantly infatuated with her.

Midori possesses a distinctive appearance marked by big curly blonde hair. Her initial design drew inspiration from Marilyn Monroe, though a later adaptation altered her look to feature brown hair. She bears a strong resemblance to another character, Akane Kimidori, who occasionally uses this likeness to play pranks on Senbei by impersonating her.

Generally friendly and kindhearted, Midori fulfills her teaching role with care for her students, though she can sometimes display anger. After marrying Senbei, her demeanor shifts toward being more noticeably scatterbrained and ditzy.

A significant part of her backstory is unveiled in "Dr. Slump: Hoyoyo! Space Adventure." As a child, she became lost at an amusement park on Metropolis Island and accidentally boarded a spaceship belonging to the royal family of Planet Takeya-Saodake. King Saodake and Queen Takeya, having no children of their own, adopted her. She was eventually returned to Earth after her biological parents were found, but she promised the royal couple she would succeed their throne if they ever fell ill or grew old.

Her romantic relationship with Senbei Norimaki develops across the series. After many unsuccessful attempts by Senbei to win her affection, their relationship reaches a turning point when Senbei jokingly proposes marriage outside her bathroom, unaware she can hear him. She immediately accepts, and they marry shortly after in a swift ceremony.

Following marriage, she becomes a mother figure to Arale and gives birth to her first biological child, Turbo Norimaki. Turbo develops psychic powers after an accident involving an alien spacecraft. In the sequel manga "The Brief Return of Dr. Slump," set around the time of Dragon Ball GT, she and Senbei are shown to have a second child named Nitro Norimaki.

She appears in the Dragon Ball series during the Red Ribbon Army Saga. While Goku is in Penguin Village, she provides him with cookies and witnesses Arale's defeat of General Blue. She also makes a brief appearance in the "Future" Trunks Saga of Dragon Ball Super, where she is seen shopping with her son Turbo. Despite the passage of decades, she shows no signs of aging, consistent with other residents of Penguin Village.

Her name references the Japanese version of the early-childhood show "Romper Room," where the female host was always called "Midori-sensei." An unnamed teacher at Orange Star High School in the game Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury shares the same character design that Midori had in the earlier portion of the Dr. Slump series.
