Description
Gajira Norimaki, universally known as Gatchan, is a cherub-like creature with green hair, wings, and antennae, lacking defined gender characteristics. Originally an angelic entity, the God of the Galaxy dispatched Gatchan to prehistoric Earth to consume metal resources and prevent human technological advancement. This plan failed when Senbei Norimaki discovered Gatchan's egg during a time travel expedition and brought it to present-day Penguin Village, where it hatched.

Arale Norimaki named the creature "Gajira" by combining "Gamera" and "Gojira," though "Gatchan" became its universal name. Gatchan exhibits childlike innocence and communicates through a unique language of sounds like "pupipopipi" or "koo pee pee poo," termed "Gatchanism," which Arale intuitively understands. Key traits include an insatiable appetite for inorganic materials, especially metal, but an aversion to rubber. Gatchan wields an "Antenna Beam," firing energy rays from its antennae, and possesses superhuman strength comparable to Arale's.

After an intense eating spree, Gatchan encased itself in a cocoon and emerged two weeks later, having asexually replicated into two identical beings, collectively termed the "Gatchans." This fission ability allows ongoing replication; a future timeline depicted eight Gatchans. The duo became Arale's constant companions, mirroring her playful behavior and participating in her antics, such as dressing as ninjas or engaging in war games.

The God of the Galaxy nearly destroyed humanity upon discovering Gatchan's mission failure but relented after observing Penguin Village's harmonious life and Gatchan's happiness with the Norimaki family. Gatchan's presence inadvertently altered broader cosmic events: by not impeding Earth's technology, it enabled advancements critical to Dragon Ball's lore, such as the Dragon Radar's creation. Gatchan's replication also indirectly affected Earth's Mortal Level in Universe 7.

In crossovers with Dragon Ball, the Gatchans aided Arale during conflicts. They zapped a tree and consumed General Blue's car during the General Blue Saga. In Dragon Ball Super's "Future" Trunks Saga, they ate an entire building at a West City invention conference while Arale fought Goku. During the film Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, they attacked General Tao with their Antenna Beam.

Gatchan appears in video games like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and J-Stars Victory Vs., using the Antenna Beam in support attacks. A live-action commercial for GU clothing featured Gatchan flying alongside other Dr. Slump characters.
