Description
Taisho-kun, universally called Boss, is a field hamster and the self-declared leader of the Ham-Ham group. Gruff yet kind-hearted, he strives to be a dependable leader, willing to sacrifice his prized helmet or shovel to aid any Ham-Ham. Though prone to temper, he exhibits courage, reliability, and occasional shyness, especially near Bijou. His signature Japanese exclamations are "Daji~e!" and "Dabba-to!".

His nature as a field hamster grants him a strong connection to the outdoors and heightened independence compared to other Ham-Hams, along with an instinctive "field hamster sense" for predicting weather. However, he suffers from seasickness and fares poorly in marine settings. Initially living alone in a burrow, this space later transforms into the Ham-Ham Clubhouse, which he claims as home.

Boss harbors a significant, unrequited crush on Bijou, who sees him as a brother while favoring Hamtaro romantically. His efforts to impress Bijou often involve conquering personal fears, like braving the sea despite his sickness. His romantic focus later shifts; he develops a minor crush on Harmony during *Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak* and subsequently pursues relationships with hamsters like Oshare and Gelato. Gelato notably returns his affections, marking his first reciprocated romance, though their separation leaves him heartbroken.

His character evolves notably after departing the clubhouse in episode #193 for a solitary journey. During his absence, the Ham-Hams relocate to Sweet Paradise. Upon his return, he adopts a secret "Hero-Ham" persona to aid others anonymously, maintaining this alter ego until Hamtaro uncovers his identity in episode #206. He continues using the Hero-Ham disguise periodically, especially around Otome's Crew, who remain unaware of his true self.

Boss deeply values friendships, particularly with Hamtaro, whom he initially underestimates but later cherishes after recognizing Hamtaro's loyalty. He shares a unique bond with Snoozer, who mysteriously appears in the clubhouse and becomes his sole companion during the Ham-Hams' absence. Boss also idolizes Sabu, seeking his guidance on personal growth and romance, viewing him as an older brother figure.

Physically, he stands as the tallest Ham-Ham at 12 centimeters, with cream and dark brown fur, a visible belly button, and moss-green eyes. He is almost never seen without his yellow helmet featuring a green stripe and a red crescent, removing it only on rare occasions, such as in *Troublesome Magical Seeds*.
