Description
Ren Shigyou, also known as Renhou or Shihang Lian, arrives as a new student at Yotsubadai High School. His striking amethyst eyes, pale purple hair, and fair complexion quickly earn him widespread popularity. Peers perceive him as outwardly kind and charismatic. Driven partly by jealousy towards Miaka Yuki and Taka Sukunami's relationship, particularly resenting the miracle of Tamahome's reincarnation, he runs for student council president against Yui Hongo. Ren manipulates schoolmates using mind control abilities, detesting those he deems weak enough to influence.
Ren is ultimately revealed as one of the Four Demon Gods, specifically the human form of Tenkou. He shares a close, incestuous bond with his sister Kashimiro Miiru. Their backstory involves persecution in their original world; Tenkou offered them restored lives in exchange for service, embedding darkness within them stemming from prior human treatment. Acting on Tenkou's behalf to generate negative energy, Ren infiltrates Miaka's school while Miiru targets Taka at the college level.
During the student council elections, Ren intervenes to prevent Yui's disqualification for lateness, advocating for student autonomy. After securing the vice-presidency for her, he walks Yui home and cryptically warns her to avoid "devourment by an azure dragon again," identifying Miaka as his enemy. Ren later orchestrates attacks against Miaka, including an incident where mind-controlled classmates write death threats and attempt to throw her off the school rooftop. Taka intervenes, and Ren is injured by the Universe of the Four Gods scroll before vanishing.
Ren extends his manipulation into the Universe of the Four Gods realm. He and Miiru assist Tenkou in thwarting Miaka and Taka's efforts to restore Tamahome's memories, stored in seven jewels critical to Taka's survival. After Miiru bites Taka to implant a parasite, Ren appears injured in her arms. Tenkou later uses Miiru as a shield during a confrontation, resulting in both siblings' deaths. Following Tenkou's defeat and the breaking of his spells, Ren and Miiru are revived and returned to normal.
His name may derive from a mistranslation of "Len," and he is alternately suspected to share the surname "Kashimiro" with his sister, though this remains unconfirmed.
