OVA
Description
Taka Sukunami embodies the modern reincarnation of Tamahome, a Celestial Warrior of Suzaku from the Universe of the Four Gods. His existence stems from Tamahome's separation from Miaka Yuki after their initial journey, leading Tamahome to seek Taiitsukun's intervention for rebirth into the real world. This transformation sacrificed Tamahome’s memories but left Taka with subconscious awareness of a past life and a fated duty to protect someone significant.

Born to the Sukunami family in Saitama, Japan, Taka grows up on their farm and dojo as an ordinary teenager with parents and two younger siblings. Recurring dreams of an ancient warrior life haunt him, though concrete memories elude him. He reunites with Miake roughly one month after her return from the book world, introduced by her brother Keisuke. Despite amnesia, he instinctively recognizes their bond and preserves their engagement ring on a chain as a physical testament to their history.

His identity crisis intensifies across subsequent OVAs. During the second arc, Taka and Miaka return to the Universe of the Four Gods after a clash with the antagonist Ren. Suzaku reveals Taka’s presence in the real world weakened the deity, empowering the demon god Tenkou to endanger both realms. To restore Suzaku’s strength and avert his own erasure, Taka must reclaim seven Jewels of Memory holding Tamahome’s fragmented experiences. Tenkou manipulates him into believing he is merely Tamahome’s inferior shadow, fueling inner turmoil.

While pursuing the jewels, Taka confronts a manifestation of Tamahome’s memories, discovering he is not an imitation but the original soul essence Suzaku "borrowed" to forge Tamahome, driven by the destined love between Taka and Miaka. Accepting this truth, Taka integrates Tamahome’s memories and abilities, reconciling both identities as inseparable. Post-quest, he chooses to remain permanently with Miaka in the real world.

In *Eikoden*, Taka and Miaka are married and expecting a child when Mayo Sakaki, a student infatuated with Taka, enters the book universe. This act triggers Miaka’s coma and their unborn child’s disappearance. Alerted by Keisuke, Taka reenters the book to rescue Mayo. Unconsciously, Miaka transfers their daughter into Mayo’s care to bridge worlds. Taka battles a false Suzaku conjured by Mayo, triumphing with Miaka’s spiritual aid. Their child, Hikari, returns to Miaka’s womb and is born after their real-world homecoming.

Taka exhibits reserved, introspective tendencies yet unwavering loyalty and courage. He grapples profoundly with the rift between his modern existence and warrior past, mourning his ancient family and comrades. His bond with Miaka anchors him emotionally, while friendships with reincarnated Suzaku warriors—especially Nuriko—aid in reconciling his duality. Professionally, he works as a Shourinji Kempo coach, leveraging retained martial prowess, and briefly serves as a waiter.

The *30th Anniversary Special* confirms lifelong recurring dreams of his warrior life, cementing the timeless link between his identities.
