Description
Tatsumi Leonard Aragaki, once a determined boxer molded by Coach Nanbu’s mentorship, forged a resilient and optimistic outlook through their training. A decade before the series’ events, wartime conscription abruptly halted his career when an explosion severed both legs below the knees, leaving enduring psychological scars—PTSD and suicidal urges. Returning to a world where Nanbu had vanished and their gym disbanded, he spiraled into isolation, haunted by betrayal and loss.

Equipped with prosthetics, Aragaki reemerged in Megalo boxing, targeting Nanbu’s new prodigy, Joe, whose gearless technique clashed with his own lightweight gear. Fueled by fury at Nanbu’s perceived abandonment, he sought to dismantle Joe as both fighter and symbol, their violent clashes mirroring his internal struggle with unresolved trauma.

Yet repeated confrontations chipped at his resentment. Wrestling with guilt and grief, Aragaki slowly redirected his rage into clarity, abandoning vengeance to embrace boxing anew—this time as a coach guiding veterans. His butterfly chest tattoo, etched as a war memento, now mirrored his metamorphosis: from fractured soldier to mentor, channeling pain into purpose.

Integrating into Team EVA under Miyagi, Aragaki’s arc culminated in reconciling loss with legacy. His journey—battlefield ruins to ring-side resilience—underscored war’s irreversible costs and the fragile, fierce work of rebuilding a self through service to others.
