Description
Feitan Portor is a founding member of the Phantom Troupe, designated as member #2. He emerged from Meteor City, an unofficial settlement whose inhabitants lack governmental recognition. His early life involved forming bonds with fellow outcasts, including Chrollo Lucilfer and Phinks, connections that solidified into the Phantom Troupe roughly fifteen years before his main storyline debut. Feitan participated in the group's foundational activities and the massacre of the Kurta Clan alongside his comrades.
Physically short, lean, and pale, Feitan possesses black hair and grey eyes. He typically wears dark, baggy clothing and a bandana featuring a skull crest that obscures his mouth. A spider tattoo with the number 2 is present on his body, though its exact location remains unspecified. During combat, particularly when activating his Pain Packer ability, his clothing morphs into a jacket-like suit adorned with three inverted crosses.
Characterized by terse speech and poor grammar, Feitan shifts to an unknown language when enraged. As the Troupe's primary interrogator, he exhibits sadistic tendencies during torture sessions, threatening to remove Gon's fingernails or mocking Zazan during her death throes. Despite this, he displays fierce loyalty to the collective identity of the "Spider," prioritizing the group's survival over individual members, including Chrollo. He maintains close relationships with specific members, notably partnering frequently with Phinks and sharing a subtle camaraderie with Shalnark. Moments of humor surface, such as teasing Phinks about his combat performance or celebrating missions with Shalnark. Additionally, Feitan exhibits mysophobia, refusing to consume items touched or spoken on by others, and rejects conventional commerce, adhering strictly to the Troupe's ethos of taking what they want.
Feitan's involvement spans key Troupe operations. During the Yorknew City arc, he assists in infiltrating the Underground Auction, announces the massacre of attendees, and tortures the auctioneer and the Shadow Beast Owl for information. He participates in confrontations against Mafia forces and Shadow Beasts, demonstrating strategic awareness by identifying discrepancies in Uvogin's capture. Later, he retrieves stolen auction items through interrogation. In the Chimera Ant arc, he confronts Zazan after she transforms and takes control of Meteor City. Injured during the battle—suffering a broken arm and ribs—his rage activates Pain Packer. This ability conjures protective armor and transmutes his accumulated damage into Rising Sun, a miniature sun that incinerates Zazan. This victory establishes him as the Troupe's de facto leader until Chrollo's eventual return. He subsequently aids in eliminating Zazan's transformed human subordinates.
Feitan's combat abilities integrate physical prowess and Nen mastery. Ranked fifth in physical strength among the Troupe, his speed and reflexes are exceptional, enabling him to create afterimages and evade attacks even while injured. He wields an umbrella concealing a sword and nail gun, employing it for distraction and precise assaults. His Nen specialization is Transmutation, though Pain Packer involves Conjuration (armor) and Emission (detached aura). Rising Sun's intensity scales with damage received, generating extreme heat across a wide radius. He utilizes advanced techniques like Shu, Ko, and Ken. Feitan almost killed fellow Troupe members during an earlier, unrestricted demonstration of Pain Packer, highlighting the ability's danger.
Additional facets include his appreciation for Trevor Brown's controversial artwork and an unconfirmed fan theory suggesting potential Zoldyck family lineage via Killua's mother. His birthdate remains undisclosed, preventing Chrollo from divining his fate. Feitan's existence lacks any official records.
