Description
Midori Saejima, nicknamed "Angel" by Hijiri Academy classmates for her cheerful and caring nature, has light brown hair and brown eyes. Classmate Akira Sudou observes her mouth appears large, while friend Ken Nakagawa playfully compares her to a frog, dubbing her "Keromin." Her popularity prompts peers to encourage her run for the newly formed student council, which she accepts after noticing the enigmatic Akira—to whom she feels attracted—is also running. Elected vice-president alongside president Akira, Midori creates posters for council activities, reflecting her artistic passion.
Previously attending junior high in K's City, Midori formed lasting friendships with Ken Nakagawa, Tonko, Kayo, Shingo, and Bunta Kouno before moving and enrolling at Hijiri. Her first encounter with Akira occurs on a rainy day when she witnesses him tenderly caring for a stray kitten named "Milk," sparking romantic feelings and revealing his hidden kindness beneath a stern exterior.
Though Midori and Akira begin dating, their relationship strains due to his unresolved attachment to Hiroko Maki, Midori’s art teacher whom he admired since middle school. Jealous of their bond, Midori suggests breaking up upon realizing Akira prioritizes Hiroko. During their separation, she briefly dates Ken, an old friend and musician harboring long-term feelings for her, but ends it when acknowledging she only loves Akira.
Akira abruptly departs Japan for three months to find Masashi Sakamoto—revealed as his half-brother—seeking closure about Hiroko. Midori endures profound loneliness until Akira contacts her abroad to confess his love, leading to reconciliation upon his return. She supports him emotionally through this journey, and their relationship stabilizes after Hiroko and Masashi marry and move away.
Midori maintains significant friendships: Initially disliked by student council secretary Yuko Mamiya, they grow close after Yuko expresses admiration, and Midori supports Yuko’s romantic pursuit of treasurer Shuuichi Takigawa. Her warm, platonic bond with council member Bunta Kouno provides comfort. Her dynamic with Hiroko evolves from idolization to jealousy, then mutual respect. She initially distances Hiroko’s rival, Shino Harada, due to Shino’s relationship with Takigawa, but later empathizes with her post-breakup.
After high school, Midori attends art college and returns to Hijiri Academy as an art teacher, fulfilling her dual passion for art and education. Her personality blends optimism with vulnerability; she cries frequently—from joy or sorrow—yet persists resiliently through challenges, embodying self-awareness as an "angelic" figure with human imperfections and fluctuating emotions.
