Description
Miime hails from the planet Jura near Antares, the sole survivor of her species after mutated indigenous flora triggered nuclear warfare and environmental collapse. Rescued by Captain Harlock during his visit to Jura, she dedicated her life to serving aboard his starship *Arcadia* out of profound gratitude and loyalty. Her distinct alien physiology features pale or blue skin, purple hair, pupil-less yellow eyes, and typically no visible mouth; despite this, she speaks and consumes liquids, primarily alcohol, which serves as her species' essential nutrient source rather than an intoxicant under normal conditions.

She possesses minor psychic abilities, employing telepathy and empathetic pain reduction to aid injured crew members. Miime also uses music, often played on a lap harp, to soothe anxiety and distress, particularly for Harlock. Though lacking a formal role on the *Arcadia*, she acts as an adviser, confidante, and occasional helmsman, demonstrating operational knowledge of the ship. Her relationship with Harlock is defined by mutual respect and non-romantic devotion; they share moments of camaraderie, frequently over drinks, and she pledges to follow him "into the depths of Hell" if necessary.

Adaptations present varied backstories and designs. The 1999 OVA *Harlock Saga* reimagines her as a member of the Nibelungen clan from Valhalla, with Alberich as her brother; she defects from her faction, gains time-manipulation abilities, plays a pipe organ instead of a harp, and appears more humanoid with a visible mouth. The 2002 OVA *Endless Odyssey* reverts to her original Juraian origin and classic design. The 2013 CGI film *Harlock: Space Pirate* depicts her with a more alien physiology, including a functional mouth and explicit facial features, while retaining her role as Harlock's ally.

A distinct character named La Mime appears in *Arcadia of My Youth* and *Endless Orbit SSX*. Hailing from the Alozaran race in the Algol system, she works as a secretary for Earth's occupation government before joining Harlock's crew. La Mime possesses no psychic powers, has no alcohol dependency, and fears a mythical "Golden Goddess." She is explicitly separate from the Juraian/Nibelungen Miime.

Across all iterations, Miime remains a figure of wisdom and stability, embodying themes of isolation and resilience. Her core narrative consistently emphasizes unwavering loyalty to Harlock and their unique bond, forged through shared experiences of loss and defiance against oppression.
