Vulpix does not appear in the OVA "Pocket Monsters: Pikachu no Fuyuyasumi 2000," where the plot centers on Pikachu and other Pokémon helping Santa Claus with a sick Stantler. Within the broader Pokémon franchise, Vulpix is a fox-like Fire-type Pokémon possessing six curled tails and noted for its beautiful fur and elegant appearance. It begins life with one white tail that splits into six as it matures. An internal flame burns perpetually inside its body. To avoid overheating in hot weather, Vulpix expels flames from its mouth. It freely manipulates fire and resists Fire-type moves through its Flash Fire ability. When confronting stronger opponents, Vulpix may feign injury to flee. Exposure to a Fire Stone or living one hundred years triggers its evolution into Ninetales. In the main Pokémon anime series, Brock temporarily cared for a Vulpix gifted by Pokémon breeder Suzy, later returning it to her. This Vulpix employed Fire Spin as its signature move.
