Rachael Lillis was an American voice actress and scriptwriter, widely recognized for her extensive work in English-language dubs of anime series and video games from the late 1990s through the 2010s. She was born on July 8, 1969, in Niagara Falls, New York, and was a pre-med student at Smith College before pursuing a career in the performing arts, which included training in opera. She studied voice acting in Boston before moving to New York City in 1996 to begin her professional career.

Lillis is best known for her central roles in the English adaptation of the Pokémon anime, a franchise with which she was associated for many years. She provided the voice for the characters Misty and Jessie, as well as numerous Pokémon species including Jigglypuff, Vulpix, and Goldeen, appearing in over 400 episodes and multiple films during the first eight seasons of the series. Her portrayal of these characters extended into related media, including films such as Pokémon: The First Movie, Pokémon 4Ever, and Pokémon Heroes, and video games like the Super Smash Bros. series and Pokémon Puzzle League.

Beyond her iconic Pokémon work, Lillis had a prolific career voicing a wide array of characters across many other notable anime series. Her roles included the lead role of Utena Tenjou in Revolutionary Girl Utena, Kanako Ohno in Genshiken, Rona Fauna in The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye, and Mimi and Suzanna in Shamanic Princess. She also voiced characters in series such as His and Her Circumstances, where she played Miyako Miyazawa, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor as Yuriko Star, and Shrine of the Morning Mist as Shizuka Midoh. Her filmography also includes roles in Dinosaur King as Ursula, Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer as Omni Exist, and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon specials as Sunflora.

In addition to acting, Lillis also contributed to the production of several anime series by writing script adaptations, with credits including work on Gokudo and Boogiepop Phantom. She was sometimes credited under the name Rachael McCabe.

Rachael Lillis passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 55. Her death was widely noted within the animation and anime community, with recognition of her significant contributions to the voices and characters that defined a generation of viewers.
