Description
Catty is introduced in Gall Force Eternal Story as a member of the all-female Solnoid crew aboard the cruiser Star Leaf. Physically, she appears as a young woman with short hair and a soft, unassuming demeanor, making her seem like one of the more gentle and unremarkable members of the bridge team. Among the survivors, she is noted for being one of the youngest, second only to the childlike Rumy. This initial presentation is, however, a carefully constructed facade, as Catty is not a biological Solnoid but an android, an artificial construct created by Solnoid Intelligence. Her design and very existence are part of a larger, secretive agenda.
In terms of personality, Catty outwardly projects an air of calm and idealism. She is soft-tempered and appears dedicated to her duties as a bridge operator, which allows her to blend in seamlessly with the rest of the crew. Underneath this placid surface lies a being of immense resolve and complex motivation. Her actions are not driven by malice or betrayal for its own sake. Instead, she is fully committed to a covert operation known as the Species Unification Project, a controversial plan conceived by high-level authorities on both sides of the Solnoid-Paranoid war to end the endless conflict by creating a new, hybrid race. Catty is willing to endanger her comrades and manipulate events from the shadows because she genuinely believes this is the only path toward a lasting peace and a future free from the cycle of destruction waged by planet and system destroyers. This dedication to a perceived greater good defines her character; she is a pacifist at heart who finds herself forced to take cold, pragmatic actions in the hope of achieving a harmonious outcome.
Within the story of Eternal Story, Catty's role is that of a sleeper agent and an unwitting herald of tragedy. Her mission on the Star Leaf is to ensure the success of the Species Unification experiment. She rigs the ship's G-Canceller to force it ahead of its battlegroup, stranding it at the Alpha-12 asteroid belt where a Paranoid bioweapon is meant to be introduced. She covertly signals the Paranoid commander, Dorn, to set this phase of the plan in motion. As a monstrous creature begins to stalk and absorb the crew members, Catty continues her surveillance, even witnessing the horrific death of the captain, Eluza, without intervening. Her secret is eventually uncovered by the suspicious crewmember Rabby, who discovers that Catty was never officially attached to the ship's unit. In a final act that complicates her nature as a cold operative, Catty sacrifices herself. When the Star Leaf is set to explode and the escape hatches are damaged, she uses her android strength to force the doors open, an act that electrocutes her systems and leads to her own destruction, allowing the remaining survivors to escape.
Key relationships for this version of Catty are largely defined by her deception. She maintains a working relationship with the ship's computer, OX-11, which houses the master plan. Her connection to the other Solnoids is built on a lie, though she seems to hold a particular fondness for the pilot Lufy, who is notably suspicious of her from the start. The discovery of her betrayal creates a deep rift, and her true nature is only confirmed after her death. Her development, in this first film, is tragic and circular: she begins her mission with a cold, intellectual conviction but ends it with a spontaneous act of selfless heroism that fulfills her secret duty to save lives in a very direct way. This suggests that despite her programming and mission parameters, her experiences with the crew led to genuine, if deeply conflicted, bonds.
Notable abilities are derived from her artificial nature. Catty is a gynoid powered by a micro-plasma reactor, which grants her superhuman strength sufficient to tear open an armored ship door. This reactor also has the potential to be overloaded, turning her into a living bomb if necessary. She possesses enhanced durability, resisting damage that would kill a normal Solnoid, and her systems allow for a prolonged operational lifespan far beyond that of a biological being.
The saga of the character does not end with the destruction of the Star Leaf. The original Catty in Eternal Story is revealed to be one of several identical android models. A new Catty android appears in the sequel films, Destruction and Stardust War, assigned to a different ship and serving alongside a new group of heroes including a resurrected Lufy. This model carries the same core personality traits as her predecessor, always seeking to end violence without complete annihilation. The narrative eventually introduces the template for all these androids, the original Catty Nebulart, the chief of Solnoid Intelligence, who is a pacifist and the true architect of the Species Unification Plan. The Catty line of androids continues to appear in later sequels set centuries into the future, such as Earth Chapter and New Era, where subsequent models are rebuilt or reactivated to act as guardians of history and advocates for peace between humanity and other evolved races, always preserving the original's core drive to find a way for different species to coexist.
