TV-Series
Description
Kasumi Kisaragi serves as the vice-president of the student council at Rikkyuin Academy. She is the successor of the Kisaragi Shrine, a background that informs her reserved and disciplined nature. Physically, she is an adolescent girl with long black hair that reaches her hips and green eyes, often dressed in her school uniform which includes tights, a tie, and hair ribbons.
Kasumi is defined by her calm and stoic demeanor. She rarely expresses her emotions and tends to keep a distance from everyone except the student council president, Ritsuko Kyubel Ketencrad, to whom she is deeply devoted. Her loyalty to Ritsuko is her primary driving force, manifesting as a strong protective instinct. This dependence is so significant that it could be described as a form of emotional reliance or devotion.
Her role in the story is closely tied to her position on the student council. She is considered one of the most powerful beings within the narrative, possessing tremendous combat skills. Despite her gentle and feminine bearing, she is an exceptionally formidable fighter who wields a katana. The weapon has different names depending on the adaptation, referred to as Chamseol or Janwol. Her martial art is known as Kisaragi-ryu Iaijutsu, though her raw strength is so immense that she rarely needs to draw her sword to defeat opponents. Her abilities extend beyond physical combat; she can also use magical Shikigami powers to create paper copies of herself.
The character has notable differences between her two primary anime appearances. In the 2006 television series, she is depicted as the next deity of Kisaragi Shrine and appears quite rigid and stiff in her demeanor, even admitting to this aspect of her personality herself. Her loyalty to Ritsuko in this version leads her to attempt to prevent the protagonist from becoming the next student council president, though she ultimately concedes. In the earlier OVA, her background is different; she comes from a yakuza family and lost her parents as a child. Her personality in the OVA is more human and shows more of a comedic side, and she develops romantic feelings for the protagonist Chihiro Enomoto, though she ultimately chooses to marry a predetermined fiancé out of duty to the president. Regardless of the adaptation, her exceptional power and her unwavering dedication to the student council president remain the core constants of her character.
