Description
Miyu Tamaki is a sixth-grade student at Elementary School No. 9 and a minor character in Alien Nine. She is a close friend and classmate of Yuri Otani, the protagonist. Unlike Yuri and her other friends Kasumi Tomine and Kumi Kawamura, Miyu is not a member of the Alien Party and does not participate in capturing aliens. Her role in the story is primarily as a source of emotional support for Yuri.
Miyu possesses a cheerful and hopeful personality. She is consistently positive and uses her upbeat demeanor to comfort Yuri, who is often overwhelmed by fear and distress due to her duties in the Alien Party. Miyu is always willing to listen to Yuri’s concerns and fears, offering a sympathetic ear and encouraging words. She genuinely has Yuri’s best interests at heart, and when Yuri feels down, Miyu tries to cheer her up by inviting her out or suggesting activities to help take her mind off her troubles, even if only temporarily.
One of the most significant moments involving Miyu occurs after Yuri suffers a traumatic breakdown in which her Borg overreacts and kills several aliens as well as the other girls’ Borgs. In the aftermath, a traumatized Yuri emerges from the storeroom and collapses in tears at Miyu’s feet. Miyu is present to witness this event and later joins the Alien Party members on a summer vacation intended to help Yuri recover from the incident. Throughout the series, Miyu remains a stable and comforting presence, though she does not undergo any personal development or gain notable abilities, as she is an ordinary student without a Borg.
Key relationships define her character. Her closest bond is with Yuri, whom she supports as a best friend. She also appears to be friendly with Kasumi and Kumi, though the narrative focuses more on her interactions with Yuri. Miyu’s motivations are simple: she wants to help her friend cope with the stress and horror of the Alien Party responsibilities. She lacks any special powers, combat skills, or involvement in the central conflict, instead serving as a grounding element that contrasts with the increasingly dark and violent events of the series. Her development is minimal, as she remains a static character who consistently provides emotional stability.
