Description
Shōtarō Futaba is a first-year student at Sōshūkan High School, colloquially known as Ao High School. Originally from Miyagi Prefecture, he dabbled in multiple sports like swimming, soccer, and baseball before high school, consistently finding himself on the sidelines without distinction. This changed dramatically the summer of his third junior high year upon witnessing Ao High's boys' rhythmic gymnastics team in a tournament. The mesmerizing display captivated him, compelling his enrollment at Ao High specifically to join the team despite zero prior gymnastics experience.

Physically, he possesses straight brown hair swept with bangs and brown eyes. He typically wears the team's blue and white tracksuit zipped fully during club activities, a plain white t-shirt paired with blue striped jogging pants for practice, and standard school uniforms elsewhere. His casual style is characterized as homey and laid-back.

Initially shy and easily flustered by mistakes or teasing, he historically trailed others' lead rather than pursuing his own ambitions. Discovering rhythmic gymnastics unlocked his earnest personality. His varied athletic background provided foundational strengths—core stability, physical power, and natural flexibility—allowing rapid mimicry of demonstrated movements. He exhibits a tireless work ethic and open acceptance of guidance.

His development centers on overcoming inexperience through relentless training. He forms a close bond with teammate Ryōya Misato, initially inspired by Ryōya's skill. Their relationship matures into a synergistic partnership where both push each other to improve. Demonstrating resilience, he performs in competitions even with injuries like a sprained wrist. His growth manifests in rising technical skill and confidence, evolving from novice to dedicated competitor aiming for national-level tournaments such as the Inter-High.

His family includes parents Mimori and Yoshitaka and a sister named Ayumi. His motivations remain intensely focused on gymnastics, driven by the desire to contribute meaningfully to the team he admired.
