Movie
Description
Tsugumi Higashijuujou hails from a family steeped in martial arts tradition. Her strict father is a karate master, while her outgoing mother is a professional wrestler. This upbringing forged her aggressive attitude and expertise in hand-to-hand combat, blending mixed martial arts and professional wrestling. Beneath her formidable athleticism and tough exterior, however, lies a secret aspiration to be a singing star, fueled by her idolization of pop singer Hatoko Daikanyama, whom she affectionately calls "Hatopeon." Her room brims with Hatoko merchandise, reflecting this deep admiration. This personal dream clashes with her family's fighting legacy, creating an internal struggle intensified by her father's past disapproval of her expressing femininity.
She owns an aggressive Pata-Pi named Tetsuro (or Tetsu), equipped with built-in microphones for singing and a camera. When Tsugumi faces intense fear, particularly against large opponents like the Homunculi or Jun Gotokuji's Cerberus, Tetsuro transforms into the fiery Diva Athena to protect her. Athena demonstrates formidable combat power, effortlessly defeating enhanced foes like Cerberus with a single throw, revealing Tsugumi's underlying vulnerability.
Physically, she possesses very long black hair, typically styled in a distinctive dolphin-tail low ponytail secured by an orange headband during school. For athletic activities like jogging, she switches to a high ponytail and wears a yellow sports jacket with red bloomers. Her standard outfit is an orange Akihabara school uniform, worn with black cycling shorts underneath and orange boots. As a substitute teacher at her father’s dojo, she dons a white martial arts gi featuring yellow seams and a matching belt, layered over a red undershirt and black shorts—an ensemble also seen in childhood flashbacks.
In the OVA and movie *Summer Vacation of 2011*, Tsugumi achieves Astral Fusion with Athena, merging into a complete Diva state. This fused form boasts an orange-and-green color scheme, fire-based angelic wings, and enhanced physical capabilities, enabling her to efficiently defeat multiple avatars with powerful strikes. During Crane’s ultimatum threatening global destruction aboard the space fortress Primum Mobile, Tsugumi and her team confront him. The Divas ultimately sacrifice themselves to protect their owners, though Tsugumi reunites with Tetsuro after Crane returns the Pata-Pis, concluding with her singing one of Hatoko’s songs using Tetsuro’s microphone.
A significant emotional arc involves her idol, Hatoko Daikanyama, secretly the villain Dark Pigeon. Tsugumi remains unaware of this dual identity until Chapter 23, where the revelation causes profound shock. Despite this betrayal, she aids her teammates in battling antagonists like Shooting Star and the Apostolus. Her loyalty to the group remains steadfast, and she collaborates closely with teammates including Hibari Hanakoganei and Suzume Sakurajosui, though she frequently clashes with the equally strong-willed Suzume. Over time, they forge a vitriolic-but-genuine friendship.
