Description
Gōryū commands the Dinoforce as leader of this Decepticon team serving Emperor Deathsaurus. He wields a large spiked club in battle and rides atop his semi-autonomous Tyrannosaurus Pretender shell instead of piloting it internally like his subordinates. Merging with the shell risks triggering the "Go-Tyranno Sparky," a massive electrical discharge devastating to all nearby. Even separated from the shell, he fires heat rays from his claws and projects gravity-manipulating energy rings from his club to trap or crush foes.

A hot-headed and easily frustrated captain, Gōryū lacks strategic intelligence. He demands strict obedience from his dim-witted troops, frequently targeting Kakuryū for abuse. Despite this aggressive leadership, he genuinely cares for his team and strives to mold them into effective warriors for Deathsaurus. This ambition often drives him to ill-conceived actions seeking to impress the emperor, leading to wasted opportunities and failure. Gōryū harbors deep resentment toward the elite Breastforce, particularly Leozack, who openly disrespects him and his Dinoforce—a sentiment reinforced by Deathsaurus and other high-ranking Decepticons.

Gōryū led key operations, including the attack on a Mars research ship years earlier that killed Jean Minakaze's parents. During the Decepticon campaign against Earth, he spearheaded assaults like the raid on Earth's lunar base to steal energy, forcing Star Saber to establish an Earth defense. In subsequent missions targeting energy plants and uranium mines, he frequently ignored orders in favor of destructive "smash and grab" tactics, clashing with Breastforce members over strategy. His insistence on combining the Dinoforce into Dinoking provided temporary advantages but consistently ended in defeat against Autobot combiners or Star Saber.

A turning point occurs when Deathsaurus abandons the Dinoforce to die after securing enough energy to free his planet-destroying fortress. Gōryū retaliates by defecting to the Autobots, revealing the fortress's critical weakness and enabling its destruction. Following the Decepticons' defeat, Gōryū and the Dinoforce renounce their allegiance and live peacefully on Earth alongside humans.

In other media, specifically the Victory manga, Gōryū is noted to have a son.
