Description
Grand Maximus is the younger brother of Autobot Supreme Commander Fortress Maximus. He fled Cybertron four million years ago among the Autobot refugees led by his brother. Crash-landing on the planet Master led both brothers to become Headmasters. Grand Maximus's mental functions reside in his smallest component, Gran, who connects to a larger Transtector named Grand to achieve standard Transformer size. Grand further combines with a Maximus-class battleship to form the complete entity Grand Maximus. Though sharing design similarities with Fortress Maximus, Grand Maximus is significantly smaller.
After joining Autobots under Metalhawk's command, Grand Maximus adopted Pretender technology, gaining a human guise. He crash-landed with Metalhawk's crew on Neolithic Earth, battling Decepticons and subtly guiding human evolution. Preferring solitude, he later returned to space, operating with Autobot forces on Athenia and Chaar.
In the early 21st century, Grand Maximus monitored Decepticon movements in space. He detected an anomalous meteor bombardment orchestrated by Devil Z targeting Earth and attempted to warn Metalhawk's Earth-based Autobots, though the message arrived late. When Decepticon commander BlackZarak headed toward Earth, Grand Maximus descended to deliver plans and materials for constructing "Godbomber," a flight-capable drone designed to empower the Autobot warrior Ginrai against BlackZarak. He later assisted Ginrai in a critical battle on the moon, forcing BlackZarak to retreat.
During subsequent conflicts, Grand Maximus became trapped in a black hole created by BlackZarak's gravity manipulation. Ginrai rescued him by combining their Chōkon Power to destroy the anomaly. Grand Maximus later transported Autobots aboard his battleship to thwart the "Death Para-Machine," a device threatening Earth's atmosphere. His ship sustained damage but was saved by human intervention.
In the final battle against Devil Z—merged with BlackZarak—Grand Maximus provided tactical support. He distracted Overlord's reanimated Transtector while Ginrai delivered the decisive blow destroying Devil Z. Following the conflict, lifeless Transtectors gained sentience, and Grand Maximus returned to space.
Expanded lore reveals Grand Maximus later supervised the "Super Convoy Project" at the G Nebula 89 transtector factory, aiming to resurrect Optimus Prime. He defended the facility against Decepticon attacks led by Overlord and facilitated the escape of former Decepticon Headmaster Juniors to the Legends World. Anticipating BlackZarak's return, he constructed a second Maximus-class Transtector matching Fortress Maximus's size. Using this new body, he traveled to the Legends World and defeated Devil Z again, though the strain of controlling the larger form nearly overwhelmed him.

He later joined Fortress Maximus and other Autobot leaders to defend the Zone Base against threats like the Powered Masters and Dark Nova.
